Big Decision? LT or LG?? Beachum or RAMON Foster???

There's so much money out there in free agency that I don't think 5-6 million is very realistic for a starting caliber tackle/guard. If he wants to stay at 5/40 with maybe 10m up front and cap hits of 4/7/9/10/10 I do that any day of the week. The salary cap is going up by roughly 10m a year.

Beachum is younger and more talented, but i believe he is going to command way more than he is worth on the FA market. It would be different if we had NOTHING behind Beachum but AV is solid with room to improve. Foster is solid and we should be able to re-sign him for way less than Beachum. I would look to sign Foster to a 2 or 3 year deal and let Beachum walk. I would also then draft Foster's eventual replacement.

I feel ya but I'd go up to 3/21,.we don't know how is he coming back from the injury and 7M avg is not chump change. As Scotty says having AV makes him less of a necessity, if he accepted that deal i'd ask him to start at LG and you'd also have an emergency proven LT in the roster. Win win

This....

Let me be 100% absolutely clear - IMO, I would not have a hard decision, if I had to choose between resigning either Beachum, our LT or RAMON Foster (I had to capitalize Ramon so that Coach doesn't steer the thread into an ADRIAN Foster direction).

Back when I was kinda new to the site - we had a discussion about our OL - my opinion still stands. C's and T's are more valuable, to me, than G's...

So, once the Free Agency market opens on Wednesday at 4PM, I'd pat Mr. Ramon Foster on the back, thank him for his valuable service and let him know that we're going to let him go. Mr. Beachum's check should already be pre-printed and ready for distribution by 16:03PM EST on Wednesday...:xmas::emmersed::cocksure:

What say ye???

I still want to see how much the Steelers gave to William Gay. I suspect there is no room left for Beachum's asking price, and don't be shocked if we are outbid for Foster as well.

Whatever happens on the OL, just be glad we have Munchak. He's a great coach!

report is the Steelers are finalizing a deal with Ramon Foster right now.

I'd suspect that Foster gets less than Incognito(3/15.75) so something like 3/13 or thereabouts would be a fine amount to pay Foster I guess.

Too bad, he is a mediocre player that can't pull and get to the second level and limits our running game as a result.

Cheaper than signing Beachum and not forcing them into signing an outside free agent or drafting a guard high in the draft again. Foster isn't outstanding, but you can't have an All Pro at every position and he is the type of dependable player that should come at a decent price to free up room for the talented players at premium positions.

I think people underestimate Fosters value to the O Line. He's the one tapping the center every play letting him know when to snap the ball. He will never be an all pro player but why mess with the chemistry of what we're building on the O Line?

Foster is solid and should a few good ones left in him. I am concerned with who is going to be the LT. I think that Villo (forget correct spelling) is decent backup but a below average starter. They may have to get a free agent or obviously draft one high. This will be an interesting couple of months!

he's a solid vet to be next to AV, you can't plug a rookie there cause your whole left side of the Line would be as experienced as a virgin nun

Actually I just read that Dulac reports that the steelers might sign Beachum to a 1 year deal.

oh man that would be the cherry on the top

Yup. Like that they are being aggressive to get these moves done before the draft. Will open up options with their limited picks. They may still take a guard.Just not as urgent a need now. Need to start grooming a quality backup and eventual starter once Foster is done/gone.

Good.

That's how the Steelers used to do business. In case anyone forgot, Ramon was an UDFA when he came here. He could have chosen a few other teams, but chose Pittsburgh since he had a better chance of securing a roster spot. In case you forgot, our OL was going to complete **** prior to Foster coming here (compared to what it was previously). So now we're "taking care of our own" by signing Foster. A guy who does not appear on any police blotter at any time. A guy who's by all accounts a dedicated family man. A guy who works his *** off in the weight room. A guy who sweats class.

Good for us. Good for Ramon.

I disagree...In fact we would only be losing one piece as Villy played more snaps and games than Beechum did last year and played better as he went...He was a rookie playing a new position at a new weight as well...I also remember him saying he had gotten a little too heavy and lost a little weight and gained mobility as well....
I forgot to add...

It's taken our OL, and yes, thank God that Coach Munchak is here, a few years to gel---if we lose two of those pieces of upfront - it could set the offense back rather than get us deeper into the playoffs.

That being said, I'd be ok with an OT/OG/NT at 1.25. Well look at that - BPA - genius!!!

Go look at a picture of Beachum next to the other Tackles and then get back to me... he is a freak body type... he has the legs of a tackle, and long arms, but his torso is weirdly compact....

He does have a freak body. I don't know, it just seems to me that in looking back, when Beachum gets beat he gets beat around the edge, Vill gets beat when a guy goes low. Granted, when I am watching the game, I do not assess why a guy got beat, just that he did. So maybe it isn't that simple. I just find it hard to believe that a guy who is barely 6'3" even with a weird body can have as long a dropstep as a guy who is almost 6'9". And think a guy can be taught through better technique to handle a guy who gets low on him, but you can't coach size.

regardless I would feel whole helluva lot better with Beachum on the roster than with Adams coming in barring injury.

The signing of foster is a great move. He will continue to improve. However after that, I don't think anyone else is worth going after unless we get the at league min or lower. We can fill the rest in with younger players or players in the system that have been working hard for a shot. That being said, the secondary still needs big help. We signed players that we had in a 30 out of 32 ranking. The draft needs to concentrate on that as well as finding a playing in free agency that was not on our roster. Just my opinion of course.

The decision is in, and the Pittsburgh Steelers select Ramon Foster. Consistent play and comes on the "cheap" Good move and glad they made a move so early.

Typical Steelers deal for vet stalwart G Ramon Foster. Guarantee is just $2.75M, or... his signing bonus. Whole deal is $9.6M over 3 years
