Big changes to NASCAR

Complete bullshit - gimmicks don't bring real fans to races



The first segment will be the first 25 percent of the race while the second segment will be the second 25 percent. Each segment will end with a caution flag. The cautions will give the races predetermined breaks in the action to help Fox and NBC air as many commercials as possible under yellow flag conditions.


10 commercials in a row now? - I imagine this will drive the last of the hardcore fans away from watching on tee-vee too

Isn't Monster energy the new sponsor as well? I thought I read sprint is no longer the sponsor of nascar?
Trying to get the younger people to watch is my guess
 
This is horrible. Doubt I'll be watching anymore. Segments. Really?


Edit- OK did some reading. This could be a good thing. I just wish they'd stay green after the segments.

I used to be a die hard fan, watching every week. Now I only watch several specific races. The season is too long, for one. Too many cookie cutter tracks for another. They went away from their core fans. Eliminating one of the Darlington races and totally eliminating North Wilkesboro were two of the many mistakes made. Any more, it's like watching IROC races every week. BORING is an understatement.

Carl Edwards not ruling out US Senate run in '18

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Carl Edwards remains a hot topic in NASCAR, two weeks after his abrupt retirement as a full-time driver.

Terry Smith, a political science professor at Columbia College, speculated in a Wednesday piece for KBIA's Talking Politics that Edwards will challenge U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill in Missouri next year. McCaskill, a Democrat, is in her second term.

Edwards didn't exactly rule it out when reached by The Associated Press. He texted: "I believe firmly in the principles that the U.S. was founded upon. If I could help, I definitely would consider it."

Agreed. I am trying to get back into Nascar. The fans who do stick around are passionate bunch. I do not like the new format, I think it's just trying to appeal to a younger audience
 
Commercials are driving down ratings too. Way too many commercials when every car is already a driving commercial. And they go to commercial then come back and show the entire caution laps.

The best thing they can do is go back to the original championship format. They have destroyed the sport and I barely watch at all any more.
 
Gimmicks don't sell tickets! Haven't they learned that yet?

So will the new advertising segments (mandatory cautions) replace the phantom debris cautions?

That and allow some bigger or stickier tires and more downforce so they don't wreck as much.
 
Is anyone into NASCAR collectibles? Back in the 90s I collected 1/24 scale die cast cars. Must have almost 200 of them. Biggest waste of money ever. Stopped following NASCAR around 2000 or so.

Yep. Was a big Davey Allison, Ernie Irvin, and Mark Martin fan. I used to collect die cast and build 1/24 model kits with extreme detail, buying special paint and high grade decal sets. Thanks to Ebay, they all became worthless, so I donated almost everything and took a tax write off.

Shame, I had some valuable stuff too. In my own stupidity, I bought far more models and decals than I could build in a lifetime.
