What a special milestone to reach....would become only the 8th player in the history of the NFL to reach that number. Just a phenomenal career for #7 in Pittsburgh.

Since I automatically discount every single Br*dy stat by default, I consider Ben ahead of him without question. And I will gladly defend that with no qualms whatsoever.
The best part is, the folks arguing the point know deep in their heart that they simply can't win. The asterisks are real. And they'll always be there.
The truth of the matter is, on Madden, Rookie Mode with fake key stats for all my players bumped up to 99's across the board and the draft cheat where I can draft 1st to 3rd in the first three rounds every single season... I have never lost a game. Ever.
I am the Madden equivalent of Hoodie and Brady.
Does that make me a world-class Madden player, or does it make me a cheater who doesn't find a great deal of satisfaction in the game other than seeing how much I can rack up yards, points and completely ridiculous stats?

Ben has had a very special career here in the burgh. He has had his mess ups but the team / fans / owners have held onto him through those growing pains. He has exemplified what STEELERS Nation is all about.
His playing style has been great for both team and NFL. He truely is one of the LAST nfl players to have played the game as it was meant to be played. His toughness and I mean that as several of the ***** QBs would
have been broken in less than half of what BEN's been through. Truely am glad all the way around to have had him on our beloved STEELERS team.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i get it, the pats are cheaters, **** them and whatnot, but this wreaks of obsession. comparing them to your video game is beyond goofy and sounds like you're trying too hard to convince yourself. let's stick with the point of the thread, to celebrate a huge accomplishment for OUR quarterback

All Ben is and has been is a game manager. So now he will be a game manager with 50k yards.
Reaching that milestone is even more impressive considering the Steelers were still more of a running team for at least a third of his career. Even now, they still don't seem to fully embrace the passing potential the team has.

Here's an interesting stat. If Ben hits 56k yards, he will have over twice as many yards as Bradshaw.

Ben currently rates 8 all time in passing yardage, and very few have more super bowl rings than he has.
He's also 9th all time in passing TD's
When you see who's on these lists, its proof positive he belongs somewhere in the top ten. Another super bowl ring, and cloud he moves up a notch or two.

When you look at just the stats, things can get muddled quickly.
However Ben Roethlisberger transcends the stats no matter how you look at it.
For example. Bradshaw was a "Big Game QB" who played in a much more physical era of football where running the ball was much more in vogue. That puts his passing ability in a pretty impressive light. On the other hand, he didn't have to contend with the modern era of salary caps and parity. So he had a very solid core of players around him.
This is true of Staubach (sp)? Tarkenton and some of the even older vintage classic QBs.
The older "new era" QBs played a game that was much less friendly to the QB and receivers. So you have to respect the work of guys like Marino, Elway and even Manning early in his career. They didn't get the benefit of ridiculous rules that free up receivers even more and protect QBs to the point of putting them in bubble wrap. So the yards they compiled are impressive.
The new era QBs admittedly rack up huge yards but they also face the most advanced defensive schemes the league has ever seen. The truth is though that the game currently is rigged for passing yards to be easier to gain so scores go up and fans see more action. So you've got to recognize that today's mass yards are not necessarily "Yesterday's" mass yards.
So why do I say Roethlisberger defies the stats regardless?
His career has spanned the "new era" where yards are probably easier to come by as a QB, true. But the first 1/3 of Ben's career saw him dutifully handing off to a hall of famer and throwing only 15 or perhaps 20 times a game. Ben was never given the opportunity to exploit great passing opportunities early in his career. Yet, throughout his career, when he HAS thrown the ball, he's done better than not only his current peers, but better than almost any quarterback of any era in yards per pass. Ben throws the ball farther.
The new era QB, like Tom Brady throws the ball 4 or 5 yards at best and hopes the receiver can break a play. He does this 35 to 50 times a game and gathers 350 to 400 yards a game and builds huge stats. Ben, on the other hand throws the ball 15 to 20 yards more often than not. He actually THROWS the ball rather than hands-off forward. This unique qualifier alone sets him apart from almost ALL current QBs except perhaps Aaron Rogers.
Furthermore, Ben completes his passes at an amazing percentage. Even though he throws less often than Tom Brady or Phillip Rivers, he throws farther and completes as often or nearly as often as they do. This gives him a significant yardage number. Ben or even Rogers would have been a dominant QB in any era where Rivers, Brady and Peyton Manning would have done poorly in other eras. Ironically, Eli Manning would most likely have fared better in the 70s or 60s than his brother ever would have dreamed despite Peyton's amazing ability to read a defense and execute. Peyton simply wasn't tough enough and able to deal with the adversity that he would have faced.
And that brings up the final point, Ben's physicality, his ability to power through, adapt and withstand the beating that he often takes (oftentimes because his own shortcomings) also sets him apart from almost every modern era QB except a guy like Elway.
No, when you truly look at ALL the numbers and then look at the situation around the numbers you realize that Ben is honestly a generational QB. Br*dy is the result of two things. Cheating and a rigorously developed and implemented offensive system. The fact that T*m can get hurt and virtually any other Joe Blow QB can come in and get 3 out of 4 wins for the cheaters demonstrates the validity of their system. I simply don't include Br*dy in any discussions of statistical achievement for QBs because you can't quantify what he's accomplished and what Ernie has accomplished for him. I suppose if you want a fair representation of Brady's stats. (notice no asterisks) you'd have to go look at his numbers at Michigan.

The Packers also have something ridiculously special in Aaron Rogers. He also defies numbers like nobody's business. In fact his numbers, generally across the board are better than Ben's. The only thing he falls behind Ben on is the "tough" meter and that's probably completely subjective.

I agree. Ben could play in ANY era. He can pass, he can run, he can improvise, he is durable and he is one of the best with 4Q comebacks / big game wins. In the top ten objectively for me, and he's not done playing!
Brady with 1970's or 1980 rules would not be able to deal with the physicality allowed in the day.

And Brady's quick throws and timing would be negated by defenses allowed to be physical with his wr's, rbs, te's. And they didn't have the video taping technology then either.
