QB- We might not have a "need" but there are several QB prospects that I would not be upset to have in camp. Jacob Eason is 6-6 with an NFL caliber arm. Has a nice pretty spiral as well. Good arm mechanics but footwork is average at best. Decision making will need to speed up in the NFL but he will hang in the pocket and take one in the chops to make the play. Football background as dad was a receiver for the fighting irish. I feel he comes off the board in the 4th so I don't think he is in play for us.
James Morgan is an underdog favorite of mine. Good size at 6-4 229lbs, rocket arm and IMO the strongest arm in the draft. Best throws seem to be deep or out routes which require zip on the ball and that is why I like him. Can't teach a guy to fit a ball in a tire hole from 20 yards out and 40 yards through the air. Either you can or can't. Great pocket awareness and his eyes were always downfield and made some Roethlisberger (in his 20's) like throws on the move. Needs to get better footwork as right now he will arm throw everything not utilizing his legs to drive the ball. It is impressive he can wing it like he does without proper technique but the ball also sails or short hops his man because of it. I feel the way the draft is falling Morgan could be around in the 6th or 7th and I would be ok bringing him into camp and letting him fight for the #3 spot.
RB- Lamical Perine is probably higher on my board than most but I just love how complete he is. Runs agressive and downhill with violent passion. Always falls forward. Sets up his blocks and has great vision. No wasted movement he seems to keep his body square and runs through arm tackles. Runs above average routes for a college player and his pass pro is way above your average RB. He also was used as a lead blocker for QB or other RB's in wild cat type plays and did an exceptional job taking his man out of the play. I would be happy if we snag him to compete with current guys on the roster.
TE- Albert Okwuegbunam is a guy the Steelers have shown interest in and has a ton of upside. Big bodies with huge hands, great straight line speed, has some ability in-line blocking. The TE;s have been sparatic and few between and not really going off value you boards because I feel after Kmet there are different guys for different systems. Al could be a nice fit to sit a year or two and develop.
OL- I think we have to address the line this last day as we have a lot of upcoming free agents. Saahdiq Charles is probably off our board because of character concerns that he could not clear up because of Covid-19. Dude has LT feet and ability so I personally think he is worth the risk at this point but I am not the GM.
Alex Taylor is a small school guys (Hargrave alma mater) with impressive size and athletic ability. 6-8 with freakish long arms and huge banana hands. But he is very raw and dominated on physical ability alone. Definitely needs a year to season or possibly two. But he is a boom or bust player and you don't find a lot of both physically gifted and techically sound guys in the draft at this point.
John Simpson is a massive bruiser interior lineman. He has sand in the pants with long arms and brute strength. Did a better job at pass pro last year and I feel is a pretty high floor kind of player at this point.
Tyler Biadasz is a Wisconsin lineman through and through. Nasty, tough as nails, not pretty but gets the job done. My concern is he has had some injuries and his 2018 tape is better than his 2019 tape. Makes me wonder if there is something medically wrong with him. But if he checks out he would be a nice backup for Pouncey taking Finneys spot and a potential replacement in a couple of years.
DL Rashard Lawrence could be a nice replacement for Hargrave. Smart guy, good character as a three time team captain. Has enough power to hold the point and enough pass rush to get it done.
Leki Fotu is an impressive size/weight guy and was a dominate run stuffer. Showed more athleticism than I thought he had at the combine so perhaps he has some pass rush ability hidden.
ILB- Evan Weaver is this years Rudy. He has more athleticism than I thought putting up decent numbers at the combine. Was a tackling machine at Cal. Would be a nice special teams guy right away and could backup Vince.
CB- Amik Robertson is a Mike Hilton clone. We might not get a deal worked out with Hilton and Sutton so this would be a replacement for Hilton next year. Guy stats jumps out at you and he is just a natural football player. High IQ guy. But he is short, short arms, not fast but quick.
S- Kenny Robinson is by far the best player on the board. But he is going to throw character concerns as he was suspended for academic fraud and then took his game to the XFL instead of transfering. He is young 21 and has 9 picks in his last 28 games. He is a ballhawk, great tackle radius, will come up and support the run. Again I think the Steelers don't have him on their board because of the character concerns but he was a stupid kid than made a mistake. He is a first round talent and could come in on passing downs to allow Edmonds to play Rover and give us two ballhawk safeties in the secondary.
