1. Bettis
2. Farrior....or
3. D.williams ?

I'm thinking D. WILLIAMS is about to leapfrog Farrior's spot....especially if he helps bringing #7 back to the Burgh. Guys been a pro on and off the field. Tomlin needs to give Williams his touches when Bell gets back.

but if Bettis had been a free agent pick up...no ******* way Williams would be a better pick up than him.....

Bettis was a trade, so he isn't in the discussion. It's still Farrior for me and not really close at this point. He was the leader of the best Steelers' defense and best era of football since the 70s. No slight on Williams as he is one of my favorite players right now and ranks very high on my list of FA pickups.

Mike Mitchell and Boswell has been solid but Farrier has done it for multiple years, going to take a while to put them in his category.

Ryan Clark is on the list....but probably behind Farrior and Williams....

Farrior, James Harrison, KevinGreene, DWill

Williams signing has been real nice these last 2 seasons with Bell and all his baggage....but is far 2nd to Farrior's signing.

I would have voted for Bettis, but if he was a trade then he doesn't qualify I guess.

Clark only had one pro bowl in 7 years with us and Farrior only had two but he was a solid LBer for 9 years,

The Steelers signed Harrison as an undrafted rookie in 2002, I don't think that's technically a free agent even though he's bounced around some.

Hartings was a free agent and had 2 pro bowls in 5 years with us.

Oops...yeh I forgot about Green, in only 3 years with us he was all pro, all everything, ending up in Canton.

Williams just got here but if he keeps playin' like he is, he may still get it.

Yes he was. Those guys are referred to as "undrafted free agents."

And at his peak, he was more disruptive than Farrior at his. James is the best Steeler FA of all time.

As was Donnie shell . But that's not what the subject is.

I would say farrior as well,

Can't forget:

Kimo von Oelhoffen

He started 94 of the 95 games he played for the Steelers, finishing his time in Pittsburgh with 229 tackles, 171 of them solo stops. He also had 20 ½ sacks, six fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles with the Steelers

Ray Seals

The defensive end came from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and had seven sacks and two fumble recoveries in 1994. Then he was second on the team with 8.5 sacks in 1995. He sacked Troy Aikman in a losing effort in Super Bowl XXX. Seals also intercepted a pass, forced two fumbles and recovered one in 1995.

Mike Munchak....but really, Farrior.

I don't know, maybe I'm crazy but I still think Mitchell is mediocre at best.

Its easily Farrior if were just talking about Colberts tenure. Farrior had a 5 year stretch from 04-09 where he was outstanding despite pro bowls or not. Played into his 30s at a high level as well

Farrior by a longshot... Then kevin greene... Then all the rest.. Dwill is like mwelde moore... And dont forget on these lists thigpen, cotchery, and duval love

For the record, i think when players start getting towards the veteran committee the 2000 steelers d is getting more than troy in the hall, and farrior has a shot... He racked up dpoy votes before, and was only overshadowed by ray ray in the pro bowl voting year in and out

1Farrior
2 Hartings
3 Von Offolon
4 Green
5 D will
6 Mitchell

Mitchell over Ryan Clark? Nope.....Green even with him being here a short time is likely the top of the list (not counting undrafted free agents...those are a different category)

I have Wayne Gandy over Mitchell as well. Probably others, just can't think of them off the top of my head.

Yeah, Gandy has to be up there.

He had a pretty shaky first season with the Steelers in 1999, but there was a three year stretch after that where he never seemed to get beat in pass protection. It was ridiculous. He and John Jackson are two of the most underrated tackles ever, not just for the Steelers.

Since FA started in 1993, the Steelers have made a lot of great signings.

Kevin Greene is probably at the top. I could not believe they got him, as there were larger market teams bidding for his services, and he did not disappoint.

I'd probably go....

1) Greene
2) Farrior
3) Hartings
4) Gandy
5) Clark

Williams, Ray Seals, and Von Oelhoffen get my consideration as well.
