Ben Saves Tomlin's ***...Again

Once more Tomlin had that look when the Bungals scored and then they show him at end he is walking around all happy, just so typical.

Definitely agree on the improved RZ offense. I think they said we were #2 in RZ TD percentage coming into the game...huge improvement over the last decade when that seemed to be a consistent issue under the Bruce and Haley.

2nd & 3 at PIT 46
(12:56 - 1st) (Shotgun) J.Conner up the middle to PIT 47 for 1 yard (C.Dunlap; N.Vigil).

(12:21 - 1st) Timeout #1 by PIT at 12:21.

3rd and 2, Pitt's first charged timeout. Bengals didn't call their first TO until their final drive of the 1st half when they had the ball.

With yearly ****** red zone issues, could it simply be the change in OCs?

Randy is calling the plays in the red zone or not?

I am sure year to year there was a emphasis put on improvement.

But if you have a different guy guiding the ship now, I would think he would be more responsible.

Or is it after ten years Tommy Tom finally changed the approach up?

Not sure if I buy into that...........

Apparently, Tomlin doesn't have a "replay system" in place. He relies on the scoreboard replay or the booth coaches to give him enough info in time. Sounds like from Ed Bouchette, other coaches have video or ipads they go to review plays, but CMT does not. WHY????? It's 20F'n18, get caught up with technology!

Good point, seems like a chicken or the egg kind of scenario. Was Randy the catalyst or did Tomlin make it a point to focus on that area more in practice...probably a little of both.

I do know we have one of the most dominant Oline's in the NFL (and finally all healthy at once) and something that took a while to develop over Tomlin's tenure. This certainly adds to the improved RZ efficiency.

What sticks in my crawl is why the run by Conner wasn't challenged as to where he went down. Had to watch the game on my phone so I didn't have the best view.
Just seems like a challenge could have been made for the spot of the ball and not necessarily if he scored. Looked like they placed the ball on the 1 yard line, but even from my 3 inch screen it was closer than that, if not a score.

And I get it, first and goal from the 1, they should score, but they didn't.

Isn't it the players job to win the game, is it Tomlin fault they can't run it in from the 1/2 yard line?

anything can happen down there. Nothing is a gimme. Remember the Bus fumble in Indy?

goddamn tomlin calling for the bus to make that fumble at that moment. **** tomlin.

I always love this tunnel vision response.

Coaches come and go for a reason. Some put the players in the best position to succeed and some don't.

It is on both parties to win the game. That is why they call it a team.

But at the end of the day it is your coaches responsibility to identify what is working at what isn't.

In this case you referenced the OC would IMO get the nod for finger pointing. As he influences what plays are called.

But in the grand scheme the Steelers have improved in the red zone. And really wan't the center of conversation.

The center of conversation was when to throw a flag and when not to.

I love the tunnel vision responses also, i was talking about the original post that said Ben saves Tomlin *** again. Funny how people forget the dumb picks Ben had in a couple games. It is, in my opinion, for any good Qb to make their coach look good.

What did picks in previous games have to do with yesterdays clock management and challenge decisions? Sure a QB should make his coach look good, but they should not have to continually make up for bad game plans, clock management, game management...etc.

Nobody forgets Ben's struggles. We also don't forget the coaches and the defensive struggles. And the inability to go deep into the playoffs. Or should we forget that due to a few dumb Ben picks?

I think Tomlin was playing for Bos. Ben switched that last play once the safety committed to stack the receivers allowing Hunter to pick his man and leaving AB a little room to make his man miss and then he was off to the races. I honestly think that was a run Ben switched to a quick slant. The way Bos has been kicking, no way I put this game on his leg.

Hey Bro,

That's odd, I thought they started their 2min drive with all 3 TOs?

And I get not reviewing the Conner TD. You lose and you're out of challenges. Plus they just scored 2 Conner TDs in close, so #3 should have been a guarantee, but it didn't happen that way.

It was the first half. You are correct they had all 3 TOs in the 2nd half and used 1 on the final drive.

Because nothing bad can ever happen when you are forced to run additional plays? How anyone can justify Tomlin's choice of challenges just blows my mind. Every radio, talk, and show last night and today all agree that Tomlin screwed the pooch on his challenges.

I'm with ya on this Cope..

The problem I had is that they called the same damn running play as the first 2 touchdown runs...

Did they really think that they could use this same play from the one three times in a row successfully?

Its a nice run blocking scheme with a slight misdirection run....but geez!!

We weren't playing Rice for Christ sakes!

Thanks Nitsuj, I got my situational football reversed!

Also, the call on first down should have been play action. I know they did it on 2nd down, but everyone was expecting the same play on 1st down from the first 2 TDs. Either way, it's a lot of sour grapes here for not making it into the endzone, and a lot of blame on Tomlin for not reviewing a call /where the risk reward is TD vs losing all reviews for the rest of the game. Though his not having someone reviewing in the booth that can radio to him is inexcusable.

The blame here is not being able to get a ball in the EZ from the 1 on 3 plays, when you had no problem cashing in, in the same situation, the previous 2 touchdowns.
