Ben Roethlisberger on Martavis Bryant: 'I'm not giving up on him'

While I think his way of handling it is immature.......

I have to say that I think the Steelers HAVE underutilized him.

He had a couple bombs thrown his way (bad throws by Ben though) and not much since.

Dude is 6'4" runs a 4.4 40yrd, and had amazing #'s 2yrs ago.

But for some reason the Steelers or Ben (in particular) can't seem to get him the ball unless it's a WR screen.

Ben needs to find a way to start getting him the ball...... not to soothe Bryant but to have another option besides AB.

Doesn't matter what happens the rest of the season.....when/if we meet the Cheatriots in the playoffs we'd better have someone other than AB who can make some plays.

Cause no matter how good AB is belicheat is King of taking away your best weapon....and if you only have one weapon (let's be honest, I have no faith in Lev Bell's ability to not be injured at the end of the season) and that weapon is taken away............

Nother loss to the Cheatriots will be the only result.

Saying all the right things about him. Think Martavis is just a mental case. Even Tomlin said all the right things today during his press conference.

5 catches for 80 plus yards will solve all this sh*t

Bryant does not have that burst anymore, that's obvious. All the long balls to him haven't been bad throws, the one in Chicago hit him right in the hands. The one Sunday, Ben told him right before the play, if the Bengals stayed in the same defense, which they did, he was going deep to him. Bryant didn't even see the ball coming and Ben just told him it would was coming.

Actually he said if they get a two safety look they would run. They got a two safety look and Ben decided to still throw. Martavis was supposed to look back at 10 yards to see if Ben threw the ball. He didnt look back until 20 or 25 yards down the field. Didnt see the ball thrown.

I thought Ben said they got the single high safety look which is what they wanted. If they had two deep safeties, Bryant would've been doubled and I just remember one db on him

Nah i think Ben said they still got a two safety look but he still thought they could get it in. Which they could have if Bryant had looked back earlier.

Hmm I'll have to listen again, I thought they got the look they wanted, I wonder where the safety went

What you have to realize with Roethlisberger is that he'll throw the deep ball any time he thinks there's a ghost of a chance. He LOVES him some deep throws.

Martavis has been gone for a year. He's not quite on the same page as the other guys. He may have forgotten the whole "Ben never quits on a play" thing. That throw was a wake up call.

If Bryant can get together with Ben, maybe swallow some pride and say "Hey, what can I do to be a better target for you?" I suspect this can all be worked out. Remember a couple years ago when Ben pulled him aside and said "We need you to play lights out." MB played lights out. I still say put the impetus on Bryant. Tell him he's going to be the focal point and let him earn it. He needs confidence and swagger back. Sure he's whining a bit, but Brown has done it too. Hines even held out for a bit once.

This can all be resolved if cooler heads prevail.

I think it went up in smoke

Teams have been defending us to prevent the long ball this season which is likely why Bryant hasn't had as many opportunities. They're forcing the offense to chip its way down the field instead. Maybe work Bryant more in the middle?

I think it’s simple. We are not going to get burned again about a **** case in house. Like spike said we own him and it’s cheap. He wants out, produce like bell is doing now.

That said, if the right deal is out there to help now and future(draft picks) taken it. This team continues to move forward each week. Baby steps but forward. No more Monday drama.

Everyone wants to win. If Bryant is open and can contribute he will be used more. You cant really force anything to anyone. Its all organic. Make some plays get some good vibes around you even when it is blocks. But for Gawd sake the team is 5-2 STFU and just play.

I think Bryant gets one more Monday of drama as the trade deadline is Tuesday.

He ain’t TO, or some high caliber star that can demand such ****. Your no one with skills. Your off the field more than your on. Yes you could be special but ........and I blame his chick.

He's not in a position to be demanding stuff. He's in a position where he's lucky to have a job.

I mean I got the guy in 5 fantasy leagues. of course he should get the ball more

“On that particular play, it was a pass-run option,” started Roethlisberger. “If they [the Bengals defense] gave us a two-high safety [look], any kind of two-high safety, we’re supposed to run the ball and if they went to a single-high [safety look], I check to it and we go to a pass, to a deep play for him [Bryant]. In the huddle, I was pretty sure that they were going to stay in kind of a two-high, but a quarters-look, with the safeties about 10 to 12 yards and I told Tey [Martavis], I said, ‘Hey, be ready, I’m coming to you. If they stay in this quarters, I know we’re supposed to run it, but I’m taking a shot. Like it’s time that we go up top.’

“And so, we came out and they gave me the quarters look, which says I’m supposed to run it, but it’s still a decent look for a deep pass. We had a good protection and what happened on the play is, Martavis, he’s supposed to look back at about 10 to 12 yards and see me throw the ball. That’s the whole point of the play is if he can see the ball out of my hands, he can track it and get under it and make a play, adjust, do whatever needs to happen. And when we looked at the pictures on the sideline, he hadn’t looked until about 25 yards. So, at that point, he never saw the ball out my hand and I don’t think he ever saw the ball in the air.”

Roethlisberger continued.

“So, it ends up looking like a poor effort play, when really, it’s just that little detail of looking a little sooner because like I said, we got the protection, I put it out there for him, I knew he was going to run under it and he just didn’t see it out of my hand. And so, I don’t want to call him out for lack of effort, I think it’s just a lack of that little detail keeps us from having a touchdown, because that’s a touchdown. If he finds the ball out of my hand, there’s no doubt in my mind it’s a touchdown. I think that’s the look I had, it’s more like oh man, we just talked about this. Like I thought we had it, more like shock and awe than anything.”

So, there you go. Roethlisberger thinks that Bryant’s lack of attention to detail caused him to be unable to track the deep pass in the air and that’s why he seemed to be disgusted after the football fell incomplete.

Suzanna Hoffs used to be smokin hot. Haven't seen her lately.

Back in the day, smoking hot:

Here she is circa 2014. She has aged very well. Still pretty hot. Yes, yes indeed.

Tomlin: Bryant 'not available via a trade'

Tomlin said Bryant's comments on social media were "out of bounds," but added the receiver had "done a lot" to improve and is a "good guy to work with." The coach did say he will deal with the situation, so perhaps Bryant is looking at a suspension.
