Ben Roethlisberger: I don’t think our window’s closed

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will return and expects the Steelers to be back, too.

“I’ll be back and feel good,” Roethlisberger told reporters after Sunday’s win over the Bengals, via video from Chase Williams of WPXI. “We’ve got guys that just got better. We’ve got young guys who just kept getting better — guys like JuJu [Smith-Schuster], and I think James Conner. Guys that are just going to keep getting better. So I don’t think our window’s closed.”

Roethlisberger campaigned to keep things together as much as possible for next season despite the disappointment of the past couple of seasons.

He apparently doesn’t need any time this year to contemplate his future as he did after last season’s home loss to the Jaguars in the divisional round of the postseason.

“I’ve got one year left on my contract,” Roethlisberger said, via Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. “As long as
Maurkice Pouncey is back, I’ll be back.”

Will they draft a QB in the first round now?

Yeah I saw that reported a few times, nice to see him back.

One coach I know will sure be grateful.

how long does Pouncey have left on contract?

I sure as hell hope not. They’ve wasted picks on QBs the past two years. I really hope he’s planning in playing longer than just next year. Then again, I wont be shocked if Rooney and company want to move on Rudolph and don’t offer Ben an extension.

Would surprise me, he is the reason this team always has a fighting chance.

For me the only reason they wouldn't is if he told them he was going to retire.

I guess I’m just looking at previous players when they got older like Joey, Troy, Hines.. I guess they weren’t QBs or playing at the level Ben still is. Steelers usually get rid of players before they are on the decline though.

Don't care. One TD against the Bungles? In a must have game? 8-7-1 with a pro-bowl loaded WR set? We are not winning anything with Ben/Tomlin. This was the most talented offense we could offer. Not winners. Losers. It's true, and you know it. They are not smart enough, and they don't put the work in.

I said first round pick

Last time we did that was, Ben

I love Ben, but his entire focus entering next season needs to be to reduce turnovers. We cannot expect different results if he has another interception filled season.

An offense that averaged 28 points a game and that’s who you want to blame. Swear to God the Steelers have some of the dumbest fans in the NFL.

How about if the Steelers improve their defense...novel concept on why we lost almost every game.

Obviously, but you can go into an offseason with goals to improve multiple areas of a team, also a novel concept.

One TD against the Bengals in a must win game. Wake up, Einstein.

With a game plan that played right into the strength of the Bengals defense Einstein. As soon as we went vertical on one series, 3 plays to a TD. Then we never went vertical again. Ben throws for 30+ TD, 5000 yards, and fans want to blame Ben. No wonder Terry gave the middle finger to Pittsburgh and never looked back.

So one game, you're going to bash him? How about the Saints the week before they played us, fighting for home field, Brees didn't throw one TD against the Panthers a team our sucky QB lit up for 51. Every game is different.
Yeah Ben needs to lessen his INTs, but at least 5 of those weren't his fault. How many INTs really were the reason we lost a game? We gave up 14 points or more in the 4th quarter to Cleveland in the tie, 14 points to Tampa in the 4th, 14 to Oakland in the 4th-loss, 18 to SD in the 4th-loss. We gave up 5 fourth quarter lead this season.
If Ben wasn't here we'd be last place in the division, and lucky to win 6 games.

1 Coaches -In game and pregame and off-season decision making.
2 Defensive scheme
3 Special teams
4 Ben's INTs -Which can be reduced with a better coach, Brett Favre says hi.

It's up to him, if he wants to play after next year and feels good and has another good season then he'll play in 2020

I can’t believe Pouncey is only 29, well he’s still got some years left so hopefully Ben has more than just next year too.

And I firmly believe this is the pecking order of issues.

They'd be morons if Ben was healthy and still putting up good numbers and they didn't resign him, especially after keeping Tomlin around so long.

#4, they need to be able to line up and run the ball better when the other team knows we are running, that will lower the picks.
Also let's not forget there was a new Coordinator this year, a rookie wr, a second year wr, and Switzer was new here, quite a few picks appeared to be miscommunication/,wrong routes.

And pressing with the lack of a running game and D. And not adequately giving Ben's reps in preseason.

My point for mentioning him was that even when you bring him up, you can see coaching or the lack there of attached to his issues. One way or another.

Wow, I didn't realize he was only 29. I think he plays 2 more yrs. the CBA is up after the 2020 season. and I don't think Ben will won't to go through that.
