Flame all you want...but would this be a legit position for him? I don’t know his decision for next year. And I also don’t know how the cap would work in this situation. But...think about it. Is it too bizarre?

You mean call his own plays in his say last year provided he returns? I'd be for it sure. Especially if my choices were that or keep Randy. I'd rather choke myself with Tomlin's vine than see Randy again.

Like i said...I don’t know how that would work or if that’s even a possibility...even if he retired or gets cut. But I’ve been thinking about it for a while. Not that my opinion means Jack **** to the head office...but..

Star QB's rarely ever make a good OC or even coach. They have too much natural talent and instincts that can't be taught to others. They may have worked hard but never like a backup had to do. They did not spend countless hours helping chart the game and watching from the sideline learning the coaches perspective. Backups are basically coaches in uniform if they are decent.

How would BEN have time to practice and OC simultaneously. We would have less than we do now. If BEN retires and thought about OC job I'd hope he gets it somewhere else because it would take a couple years to even determine if he was any good at it. There is a hell of a lot more than QBing to be a OC. You have to evaluate talent, coach players in other positions, coordinate all facets of the offense, practice routines, decide who gets first dibs on the ping pong table,........ You know the important chyt.

I’m saying if he retires or gets cut. Could he or would he come back to do that job?? However..him doing 2 things could NOT be worse that ****-Ner doing one. But if it were a legit possibility for Ben to be an OC or even QB coach...would you be Ok with it?
He has made over a hundred million dollars... what possible reason would he have to come back for what might be a One or two hundred grand a year Job at best?
He has a family... its play for millions or sit with them for for a while... you dont ever see star qbs jump right into coaching...some take lax announcer jobs... nobody wants that pressure

There is a lot of speculating as to who calls plays when. We as fans do not really know. Hard to say how well Ben would do, but he seems to be good at making adjustments on the fly. Playing and being OC would be tough though
Also its really different calling plays on the field And adjusting when you see defenses right in front of you and calling plays based off of tendencies and schemeplans from the sidelines or booth

Steelers need to move quick fire randy fuknutz fire butler and hire Adam gase as OC and Gus Bradley DC... we have a future hall of farmer in claypool and gase is best play caller in football period. according to bill billicheat and Payton manning. And if Ben stays gase is good with old unmobile qbs he took Payton Manning to Super Bowl. Bradley built the seahawk defense and though I wouldn’t expect to be Seahawks east his defense has its roots in the old steel curtain. Gus and or his secondary coach ron milius would be good place to start in building a modern defense for ‘20s and not a defense for the ‘90s. Heyward and tuitt are the best de tandem in football and butler insists in playing them as tackles! We get sacks from blitzing a better defense would use tuitt and Hayward were they could overpower tackles and tight ends from outside let Watt be the rover were he is blocked by tight ends and fullbacks. In this era of the short drop, quick pass the blitz just isn’t that effective as an over all strategy. U need to send 5 guys, four linemen and a rover at qbs and the running backs and you have to have 6 guys that can cover. All six have to cover period! No inside linebackers or safeties that kinda cover and corners that can cover mono n mono. Bradley’s defenses have changed over the years as they have morphed to defend the RPO offenses. He or Ron milius would be a good start in building a defense for the future and both can work with tomlin. I think Bradley coached with tomlin. Gase is the gold standard as coordinators go but took over crappy teams as head coach. I wouldn’t cry if they hired Adam gase and then brought in Sam darnold too but that’s a different post... go Steelers!!!
If he retires or gets cut he has to go thru the same steps as any other coach wannabe. Work his way up and show capable of positional coaching. The correct answer would be a wait and see. Just a very hard sell when looking back at how many ex players here didn't work out. So to just hand him a job out of the gates? No.

Had to work hard to come up with one. I did say rarely not never. He was a Hall of Fame coach but he was not a hall of fame QB his stats are much worse than I thought..

I do love me some Ben, but in the pantheon of QBs who defined some aspect of the game, (for me) it goes like this.
Peyton Manning was the best "cerebral" QB I've ever seen, going away. He could read a defense pre and post snap better than anyone, imo.
Dan Marino was the most "physically gifted" QB I've ever seen. He was able to make all the throws and put them on a dime.
Ben is the greatest "In the moment" QB I've ever seen. Call it sandlot, call it making **** up as he goes, Ben has been able to adapt and compete against just about anything you throw at him better than anybody.
Sadly, I don't know that Ben's greatest talent (again, imo) translates very well to an OC position. I can see him thinking... "Well, this play SHOULD get us a first down here. Oooh. Watch it Jimmy, they disguised the blitz and they're coming at you. Spin, Step up. Jump back. Juke left... Jimmy! Keep looking downfield. Hey - Look over there, James is going to cut left... wait... wait... Keep an eye on the line of scrimmage, don't pass the line.... now... THROW!"

2021 Season: Ben either remains or he retires.
If he retires, if I were him, I'd take a couple or more years to enjoy my family, the fruits of my labor (house, cars, take Ashley & kids on vacays). Snow tube with BFF Ryan Switzer (see YouTube series "Bigger Than Ben")
Then after that time off, if he gets that itch that many retired professional athletes get and he just HAS to get back in the game somehow, but without committing too much, he can always start as a QB/Offensive coach Intern, much like Hines Ward did, then like Hines did as the Jets WR coach, take a full time position as a QB coach. From there, see if it's something that or OC is in the future for you.
Or he could give it a shot in the booth or studio, akin to Tony Romo et. al.
It all comes down to what Ben wants, when it does happen. As the twilight of his career has been thrust upon all of Steeler Nation, we must acknowledge that his wants/desires will receive top consideration. And good for him.

The league hates Ben, and he burned all of his bridges with the Media when he was younger. There is zero chance he gets a broadcast gig.
I find this type of thing to be a child like desire to hold on to something that really is gone. If Ben is the OC he is still there. I've never seen anything about Ben that screams OC other than he sees what is in front of him better than doing what the OC wants. Ben has made a gazillion dollars in this sport. Maybe he just needs to live out his life as the best dad and husband he can be.
well he isnt that good of a tv personality either is he.
IMO if i were him i would become a qb coach guru.
there are plenty of ways to win championships.

I hear what you are saying Yinzerlyn's but I wouldn't want him here to see if the experiment would work. Let him get his experience somewhere else. What he does when he hangs E'M up is his Buisness but I don't want to impede our player / team developement while he "gets his feet wet". There are way better potential / OCs out there that would help us imeadiately.
