@ I fully expect Ben Roethlisberger to play Sunday against the Broncos. In fact, I expect him to play well.
It's been my experience – and I've covered Roethlisberger since he came into the league – when he talks about an injury in great detail before a game, he's better than he lets on.
When he doesn't talk about it much, he's typically not playing.
Roethlisberger said on KDKA-FM Tuesday that he's got a sprained AC joint and torn ligaments in his right shoulder.
Well, a sprained AC joint is a shoulder separation. And there are various degrees to that. And when you have a sprain, there is either stretching or tearing of some ligaments to some degree. So it's really all the same injury.
And he played through it last Saturday.
Given a full week of rest and therapy – plus perhaps a pain-killing shot prior to Sunday's game – Roethlisberger should be good to go. I can't imagine him not playing in a playoff game if he's even slightly capable.
And despite national reports, the Steelers expect Antonio Brown to be fine as well. Concussions are tough to judge and some linger longer than others, but everything I'm hearing is that Brown will get through concussion protocol quickly.
He has no history of concussions, which helps. The more concussions you suffer, the more they tend to occur and linger.
But don't tell Pacman that. He's likely to continue to say Brown deserves a Grammy Award for what happened Saturday. Never mind the fact that the Grammy is a music award.
The news on DeAngelo Williams wasn't quite as good. Despite the fact he's out of his walking boot, Tomlin said Williams is on the outside looking in as far as playing Sunday.
That's somewhat surprising. And even Williams responded to national reports that he would miss the game on social media with a “SMH.”
He thinks he's going to play.
