FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Steelers star running back Le'Veon Bell was bothered by a groin injury even before he was forced to leave the AFC championship game in the second quarter of Pittsburgh's 36-17 loss to New England.

Bell had only six carries for 20 yards, and his absence was felt by an offense that sputtered near the goal line. DeAngelo Williams had a touchdown run for Pittsburgh, but the Steelers rushed for just 54 yards.

Bell knew during warmups he wasn't close to 100 percent.

"Yeah. I've been trying to micromanage it through the whole thing, just trying to keep it to myself and not trying to scare anybody," Bell said. "Today, it just kind of broke the camel's back and I couldn't go."

He wouldn't put a date on when the groin began bothering him, and he was hopeful he could stay on the field Sunday.

"I thought I could still fight through it," he said. "Today, it was something weird about the tackle. It just hurt too bad. I just couldn't do anything."

He knew his day was over when he took the ball on a draw play and couldn't burst through a hole the offensive line had provided.

"I saw the seam and couldn't hit it," he said. "It was like I was running 50 percent out there. At that point, I knew I couldn't go. I was holding the team back."

Bell was sensational in playoff wins over Miami and Kansas City, rushing for 167 yards vs. the Dolphins and 170 against Kansas City. Despite being suspended for three games in 2016, Bell rushed for 1,268 yards and seven touchdowns during the regular season. He added 75 receptions for 616 yards and two scores.

Against New England, however, the injury did him in.

"It sucks that I couldn't be there for them," Bell said, a look of disgust on his face.

I wonder if he was injured in practice last week? Ran great the last two weeks. Probably never hear because the Steelers didn't have him on the injury report.

And if that is true, we will be stripped of a 2nd round draft pick.

And now the problem...by him opening his mouth and saying that...it brings the league into it...why wasn't he listed on the injury report...he was listed last week as missed practice ..not injury related...now he is saying he was...this could get ugly with the league...loss of draft picks ugly

"Yeah. I've been trying to micromanage it through the whole thing, just trying to keep it to myself and not trying to scare anybody," Bell said."

If he kept that from the coaches and/or training staff he is an absolute idiot. We have a couple of million dollar athletes with .10 cent brains on this team.

Yeah, a simple explanation, and list him as questionable.

And the final touches to the season.. losing a draft pick for not disclosing an injury.

I could've sworn after the game Bell said he was hurt on the second play of the game?

He said he re-injured it on the second play, but said that he has been dealing with the injury for a couple of weeks.

If he said he kept it to himself, how can they take away a draft pick? He makes it sound like he didn't even tell the team...

I have to believe the coaching staff knew. I see no other reason why Toussant would have gotten a helmet yesterday. They knew Lev was probably not going to be in that game long and needed a back up for DA.

Why would he say something now? If he kept it to himself all week, why not just leave it there? I really wonder about these guys running go off at the mouth all the time. Ben has a tendency to do the same thing.

IQ rating, they have extreamly low to none......................

If he has been hurt for a couple weeks, he sure did one hell of a job hiding it while demolishing the Chiefs last week. Something is fishy here. All of a sudden this week he is a shell of himself and calls it a day after his 2nd touch of the game.

Is this a ploy to not be tagged...look at me I'm always hurt ,look at me I'm not a good soldier ...just a thought..probably a lame one but had to throw it out there

If true Tomlin is responsible. And after bitching about officials ( head coaches should keep quiet ) he made his team s bigger target and less likely for mercy.

Probably the real reason was he didn't want to be called out like LT was in the Chargers last AFCC game for quitting on his team with a "minor" injury. Bell's only way out from that ridicule was to disclose his injury history. I'm not saying it was the right thing for him to do but I can see why he would need that kind of excuse or risk being called out for quitting on his team for no reason and being labeled as a *****.

In his year-end press conference, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said he knew that Le'Veon Bell was playing with a groin injury down the stretch.
That injury limited Bell to just 11 snaps in Sunday's AFC title game. "It was just something to manage," said Tomlin. "I was aware of it, but it wasn't significant to the point where it affected planning or the anticipation of planning in anyway." The Seahawks are in some hot water for not reporting Richard Sherman's knee injury and it will be interesting to see if the Steelers face a similar backlash. As of now, it looks like Bell should have a normal offseason. Melvin Gordon has been tapped to replace Bell on the AFC Pro Bowl roster.

Unfucking real, too stupid to just avoid the question or lie about it. Guarantee the league makes an example out of us, they do with every other fine on players.

Unbelievable! Just when I think it can't get any worse with this guy now this. When will the Rooney's wake up from this 10 year nap?

If Tomlin knew Bell was playing with a groin injury down the stretch, why the **** would he run Leveon into the ground to the tune of 59 carries in the first two playoff games? Including 8 rushes after they were up 3 or 4 scores late in the third quarter against Miami? That's how he "managed" it?

Well considering that Bell broke the teams single game postseason rushing record one week, then went out and broke his own record the very next week, I gotta say that's incredible production for a guy that was nursing an injury so bad that it kept him out of the conference championship game. I wonder how much more productive he would have been if he was fully healthy.

Are you saying that both Bell and Tomlin are lying? What records did he break against the Patriots?
