By Jessica Costello SteelerNation.com The Pittsburgh Steelers ended 2019 with a more than unsettling 8-8 season. Missing the playoffs for yet another year, the ultimate factor was the plague of injuries. Most of the season, the team was relying on quarterbacks in their first or second year. This season wasn’t anywhere near what fans expected. […]

As long as BB has the dick swinging we be winning.

In all seriousness I wonder what we get. This year I seen BB counterparts, (age group) Manning, Rivers, Brees, *****, and Rogers all look their age. Some obviously worse than others ...cough cough Eli and *****. I don’t care about his stats or their record, Rogers looked old this year same with Brees. Certainly their teams are not as complete. Just thinking out loud. Could that great generation of QBs all be done soon

I agree QB's are showing their age IronCity. I'm hoping that the year off rejuvenates BB and allows him to come back strong and ready. My glass is half full for sure.

Within three years all will be retired. Time stops for no man.

Ben's idol John Elway hung up the cleats after his 16th season, Ben is now entering his 16th season this coming August. I know he says that he's committed to the three year deal, but I don't see him lasting a full season unfortunately. Like Elway, Ben has taken way too many hits over the years and I just don't see him being healthy enough to play out his contract. I hope I'm wrong.

Can anyone explain what is meant by "Beardless Big Ben . in 2020" ? Because the article doesnt mention it, or refer to him shaving, and i dont see the metaphor .

Look , let’s be logical here..

If you think the Ben we are going to see in 2020 is going to play like the Ben we last saw in 2018, then your smoking something. Qb’s don’t
get better at this stage of their career. So knowing this, the best thing we can do is get the O-line together and get the running game going and let Ben be a compliment to the running game. That’s how we need to approach the offense this off-season.

Brees in 11 games threw for just under 3,000 yards, 27 TD's 4 INT's 74% completion %. His injury had nothing to do with age, he cracked his thumb on a helmet or another players shoulder pads.

Rodgers had 26 TD's 4 Int's 4,000+yards.

Ben in 2018 had 5,000+yards, I've seen 24 year old baseball players hurt their arm throwing, so I'm not sure his injury is age related.

If we had any of the above 3 this past season, with our defense, we'd be right there fighting for home field in the playoffs

If the defense is as good next season, we don't need Ben to be lights out every single week to win games.

Exactly ..... that’s why I said we get the O-line issues resolved and get the running game going.

Those aren't as big of issues with Ben back, defenses actually have to respect the QB with Ben back there, no one was scared of Rudy or Duck so the just stacked the LOS, which killed the running game too.

Ben can put the Oline in different protections based on what he's reading from the D, something very seldomly talked about this season with the Oline struggling, Rudy or Duck aren't going to make many if any protection calls, line shifts, etc.

Uh.. the O-line and running game wasn’t there WITH Ben. Remember the pats and seahawk games??? O-line was terrible and we couldn’t run a lick in either. The running game isn’t just going to appear because of Ben.

We lost the best O-line coach in the league and Serrett ( his replacement) obviously wasn’t up to snuff. We need a legit, proven , O-line coach.

We're going to win the super bowl next year. He will be the qb. The defense has the pieces. Upgrade the OL,hit the coaching staff over the head with the staff of fundamental preperation and we're good to go.

Just keep your eyes peeled for that beardless Ben photo.

Fingers crossed!

We never do anything in NE and Ben played one half vs Seattle. 2018 with Ben, Conner averaged 4.5 yards per carry and Samuels averaged 4.6 yards per carry. I'm not saying we're going to shoot right up to a top 5 rushing offense, but it will definitely help.
The loss of Munch sucks, but those Olinemen were all there with him, it's not like they suddenly forgot how to block when he left.

Run blocking&a nasty attitude. It helps everyone. Gets everyone involved, opens the passing game, controls the clock and keeps that high motor output defense fresh.

No one is saying Ben is going to come back and throw for 5,000 yards, he doesn't have to, just having a QB that can make audibles, protection changes, take advantage of defenses, and make tough throws will help the running game.
This Oline has never been a great run blocking line, so you're not going to over haul the Oline this off season, we don't have the cap space or draft picks to do it. Conner always being hurt is big deal with the lack of running game as well.
So how do you overhaul the running game in one offseason?

I move Feiller to LG, I put zach banner at right tackle or Okorafor. IF Okorafor cant compete for that job by now,, we are wasting space.

I ditch that whole extra tackle offense.

In my first 3 picks Im drafting an O lineman.

They use the extra tackle so much because we don't have a TE worth a damn, LOL.

I agree with all the above, and I believe that's all going to happen, but if anyone thinks that going to turn us into a top rushing attack, that's not happening either.
