I know its only one pre-season game so well have to wait and see if this type of performance can be*replicated, but Baker Mayfield impressed me with his reads, accuracy, ball placement where only his players can make the play, knowing when to run, and getting yardage while doing it.* His poise/command of the huddle looked good, and he wasn't exactly working with good skill players. The arm looked a little below average, so we'll see if he can throw it as well in the cold or bad weather.

If someone asked me to compare Mayfield's game to a well know NFL QB, I'd say Drew Brees, though we all know he's not going to be that good! After striking over a dozen times on quarterbacks, did the Browns finally get one right? We'll see.

Nah... this is the get the Browns fans hopes up phase... same thing with Colt or Quinn or or any of the other ones... they have some bright spots just long enough to say maybe.... then the dung heap finally reclaims its own..

I honestly believe he's the best one of the bunch they've drafted over the past 20 years or whatever. Whether that's enough to make them into a consistently winning franchise is obviously yet to be seen.

He's going to be very good as long as he can stay straight off the field. I do worry about ego with him.
The skills are there.

I actually think the Browns win 6 games this year. They will be much better. I think bringing in guys with actual leadership
attributes will help turn them around (as much as it pains me to say).

Really Coach! Drew Brees and you make this observation after one meaningless pre season game.
Time will tell and for me I need a hell of a lot more than the very first meaningless pre season game.

To you Brownies fans. Yeah go ahead and get excited early. You’ve been down that road enough so it should look familiar.

I'm thinking 6 wins, as well. If they can possibly split their games with the ACFN and sneak out a few more Ws, it will be a successful season for them Brownies. They needed leadership and some pieces, and I think they now have some of both.

Dude, if they BEAT the STEELERS that will be their Super Bowl win and no one can say otherwise.........that is unless you're not a browns fan.

Salute the nation

He'd be as good as Brees on the Steelers. The Browns will beat that out of him.

My entire point Coach! You nor I know exactly after just one meaningless pre season game. That is why I said I need to see a hell of a lot more than just one game.

The way you construct your posts you set them up like this one to cover your *** either way. His play reminds me of Drew Brees but we all know he’s not going to be that good. So which is it? You can’t have it both ways. So if he turns out to be the next Drew Brees or he turns out to be a bust you’ve covered your ***.

My prediction: Baker Mayfield is taking the browns to an afc wild card game this season

You can honestly say that about the Bungals, too. Maybe the Ravens. Their best chance may be the first game, when Bell will be rusty and not in football shape, Ben will not be super sharp and Hell it's the first game of the year where anything can happen. Last year's game was dicey and I expect an even tougher game against the **** Stains.

He looked very good in his first pre season game. Looked like starting material to me.

Ok then take that stand. I can respect that.

Look, bottom line Coach none of us know what Mayfield or Rudolph or Darnold will turn out to be. Not from one pre season game. We all need to see quite a bit more before we can say he’s going to be a good one.

Mayfield may indeed turn out to be the real thing or he may continue to add to the long list of busts in Cleveland. It’s just too early to really know and I can’t say either way yet. I need to see a lot more before I make an evaluation.

Oh good Lord....11-20 against 3rd team DBs. Give me a break. So I guess Tyrod Taylors 5-5 against the starters makes him All Pro material.
Jesus Cripes I hate preseason pimping.

I think Mayfield is going to be pretty good. He has that "it" factor that could help bring the Browns out from the cellar. They have some talented players on that team and could be a wild card contender in two to three years as long as they find a decent head coach. I can't believe Hue is still there.

Exactly! Everybody's acting like it was this amazing performance. He wasn't horrible, but he was just barely over 50% completion against a horrible Giants defense, and most of those guys will never see a regular season game. Maybe Mayfield will surprise me and be great, but I'm not holding my breath. He's a barely above Johnny Jackass level douchebag.

Let’s see him perform without looking at vanilla defenses. How he handles NFL complex defensive schemes will be the tell of whether he has the poise to handle it.

Or 11-20, 212 yards, and 2 TD's. He's not working with Brown, Ju-Ju, or Bell or the Steelers OL. He's doing this on a 0-16 football team.

Its very early, but the 2018 QB class looks very promising. Darnold and Allen also had good games.

It's one game, one preseason game. No reason to get excited. Good for Mayfield that he played well and had a solid game. I'm sure he worked hard all week and so far in camp to get the results.

Until he plays consistently against starters and top players on defense, there's no reason to get excited.

I am a University of Texas alum, so I am suppose to hate him. I cant stand his antics, cockiness, etc. I know it is only one pre season game, its the same old story, he is a winner, the Browns will ultimately mess him up, but I do think he has a better than average NFL career, most likely with his 2nd team.
