Bad coaching. What I would ask Tomlin.

Here's how Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisbergerexplained the decision after the team's overtime loss in Chicago.
"By no means, by no way shape or form, was there any disrespect intended towards our troops and those who serve this country," he said, via ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler. "We all have the utmost respect for them, obviously. They give us the freedom to play this game.

"Last night, obviously, with all the issues going on if you will, we had a players-only meeting after the team meeting ... we decided we were going to talk about what we were going to do because we knew some guys wanted to take a knee, guys wanted to stand. We said whatever we do, we need to make sure we are unified as one group because that is what we are about and that is what it should be about. Staying together as one unit, one group, one brotherhood, things like that.
"So rather than having one guy kneel, one guy stand, the conclusion was made by everybody that the best thing to do was to stay in the locker room (or in the tunnel, if you will) and show respect that way."

Not blaming the refs for the loss because we didn't deserve the win but in the OT quarter there were blatant holds the refs didn't call that you just can't let go. That said it was a horrible effort by our team today. Coaches and players sucked.

Two holds.

The bad officiating was for both teams. So yeah, chalk it up to bad preparation.
I hate these should win games early in the season. Gotta see how these guys respond next week

Yep. Unity. Team. One Fight. All Army values there. It was the right move, and I respect it. AV was a special case and was given special consideration.

Everyone acted in the best interests of both country and team. Respect.

The coach is who I thought he was. A good but not great coach. Who isn't a X and O adjusting on the fly coach.

Get Bellicheat on the phone. See if you can talk him into resigning.

Otherwise, you've got jack **** for a replacement. Who you gonna get? Rex Ryan?

Marty Shottenhiemer's available...

We did this discussion before it would be one of these hot assistants begging for a head coaching opportunity. You don't keep a deficiency because you are scared in not finding something better.

Unless you have a personal agenda related to something like his skin color.

But nobody get rid of good to mediocre coaches as there can't be anyone better!

Whoi the **** was Tomlin before we hired him, no one knew him.

Would loved to have seen a smart coach here for Ben's [rime instead of the used car salesman we employ.

!

A deficiency? Really? How long do you think he'd be out of a job if you fired him today? He'd have another head gig before you could hang up the phone. There are teams that would fired their head coach just to hire him.

And you'd give him up for an unknown commodity in the form of a coordinator with no HC experience? Ok.

Who? What coordinator would be worth firing Tomlin for?

As Tomlin worded it before the kickoff on CBS, “We’re football coaches, football players. We’re here to play football.”

Yep. That’s it.

Here’s what happens if they take the field for the anthem: People like me up in the press box take roll call of every player who does or doesn’t kneel. Or lock arms. Or sit down. Those who do protest get big headlines, and those who don’t protest are viewed as having the opposite stance, even if they’re not expressing anything at all. No one escapes without a label.

As David DeCastro unapologetically told me, “That’s the real bulls— part of this. You’re damned if you do, damned if you don’t.”

That includes from within. Because the team concept, the immensely critical collective in football, is threatened. Because now it’s no longer about just personal expression. Now it’s not taking a stand with your fellow African-American. Or it’s disrespect for Alejandro Villanueva, the decorated combat veteran in Afghanistan. Or it’s whatever, but it unconditionally draws lines.

So, the Steelers’ players, beginning early Saturday upon their charter’s arrival here in Chicago, began mulling how they might respond to the fuss between the president, the Warriors and a slew of other professional athletes who quickly contributed. Ramon Foster told me that a good number of the team’s leaders — Roethlisberger, Bell, Brown, DeCastro, Heyward, Mitchell, James Harrison, special teams captain Darrius Heyward-Bey and others — were involved.

“Great participation,” Foster said. “Healthy dialogue.”

The meeting lasted only about a half-hour but it was a lot later at night, which didn’t sit well with DeCastro and others, given the Central time kickoff at noon.

“I’d probably be lying a little bit if I said no,” Roethlisberger replied when asked if the meeting might have affected preparation.

But, and this is just my opinion again, it wasn’t wasted. As an emotional Foster would say later, “We might go down, but it won’t be because we aren’t together.” That’s it. These aren’t digit-dots on a Nintendo Switch. Trust is mandatory.

So the players sought an audience with Tomlin and Art Rooney II to seek permission.

bwahahahaha

again you can have those participation trophies I am interested in the only trophy that matters

Pretty much true of the QB, too.

Good, but not great. And today he was far from good.

Had he been even a little sharper, Steelers would have won.

yeah he made that run D look like ****. And he made that returner fumble, and he made this team year after year after year lose to garbage teams

************

got damn it mane

Yeah, Coach, because Tomlin gives a **** what some internet troll thinks.

He does not, Coach. He's never even heard of you.

He's lucky I am not a beat reporter asking him questions. I don't think Tomlin knows anyone here or reads this forum, but my hunch is someone on the Steelers does.. Bob labriola mentioned Dan Rooney read the mail bag at Steeler Digest all the time.

SPEAKING just like tomlin, if you will

There you have it. Ben said it was a distraction. We saw it on the field.

I wish this political **** never existed within sports, it is really ruining NFL. I miss the times when sports was always there to get away from the other garbage.

Yep you do like Jerry Jones said

We stand for the flag here and respect it. I believe he said something about firing players after that.

It is a distraction because the Rooney and Tomlin allowed it to be a distraction.

Truth said. Like Jerry or NOT, he has his company and employees in line. The players can speak all they want but when you represent this organization, you will represent it the way I want it represented.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What you do on your time is just that, your time. WHAT you do on my time IS MY TIME, Kapish?????

The national anthem, a team meeting, sitting, standing, kneeling, DJT, etc., had nothing to do with today's outcome.

The Steelers lost, plain and simple.

It happens.

k you keep telling yourself that lack of focus didn't help contribute

Focus, schmocus.

Give the Bears credit.

John Fox, one of the biggest branches on the Noll Coaching Tree, was effective vs. Steelers when he was at Denver. (i.e. Tebow to Demaryius Thomas in OT.) That obviously continues.

always some snappy excuse to dismiss the trend

Stand, sit, knit....who gives a ****! But when he shows more fire about being asked about this issue than he does about losing to the freakin' Bears and other scum teams on the road, it really shows his true colors. Get your head in the game Tomlin and bring your team ready to crush these low life teams. Man, I'm pissed about this loss. Hopefully, they can turn it around next week against the Rats.

Great post, we have a below the line coach to use one of his tired axioms. Would love to see the next one up axiom used

The trend of only scoring 17 points? You want to blame the D for the loss, when the O put up 17 points?

Here is some questions. 1) Mr. Head Coach Michael Vincent Lombardi Tomlin, why did you call a play to allow a blocked FG to be run back, almost, to a score? 2) why would a TE be so disrespectful of your leadership and discipline along with an incredible distraction, to never give up on that play and save a TD. 3) when you called the play to have Ben overthrow your tallest WR, twice, did you get the outcome you were expecting? Will you call that same play next week?

Ad nauseum. D gets shortfielded 2 or 3 times, while the offensive unit puts up 17. **** you D.

I said it another thread. In today's NFL, if you only score 17 points, you deserve to lose.
