We played what may be the best team in the league to the wire.
In the previous 6 games, Dallas has won by an average of 13+ points. We kept it within 5 and with a ****** defense. We knew they were going to score 27+ coming into the game.
I expected a loss. it doesn't bother me, a lot, that it happened.
The loss, in isolation, doesn't bother me that much. But the fact that we lost to a below-average Ravens team and a Fins team with a losing record (but has since proven decent) and that we lose an previously unfathomable four in a row, to be collectively disconcerting. Also, knowing that the team knew it dug itself into a hole, and it still couldn't stop Dallas from scoring a TD in less than 40 seconds to win the game illustrates that, at least right now, this team is not a contender. If they were, they'd have found a way to win this game. But with everything on the line, they were inept to the point of not being able to prevent a winning TD in under 40 seconds. That is just telling. Especially troubling is that they have had 3-4 years to fix this D, with that many drafts and free agency periods, and yet we seemingly have no improved whatsoever. I will be the first to admit I thought LeBeau was the problem, and to an extent, still do. But obviously, he was not the summation of our problems on D, or, at least, Butler is not the solution. And, for whatever reason, this team, post-Cowher, is not able to acquire good enough talent on that side of the ball. I am not sure who the dirty end of the stick should be pointed, but with that many years spent on upgrading our talent, our lack of improvement is somewhat alarming.
