Asking for a friend

Held them to 10, one time. Just because the offense sucks, doesn't mean the defense has to suck does it???? The offense was crap too, go start an offensive bash thread. Tomlin sucks all the way around when it comes to game planning, and situational football. Offense and defense.

This thread is about the **** *** 2DL scheme that he tries to use vs NE time and time again and it never works, but he just keeps on trying.

No one is trying to blame one side of the ball more than the other.

I'm blaming Tomlin for trying this piece of garbage defense again and again vs Brady.

Doesn't mean it has tonsuck, but it does mean it is irrelevant. I suppose if you are fine losing 6-3, but not 33-3, it makes a difference. To me, the difference in the score is irrelevant if you end up with a W.

We may have played them differently last year. I have no idea.

In just about every respect, our D looks better, on the paper, than they did last year or the year before.

These guys played in the preseason quite a bit, i think, and have zero excuses for how they played.

However, it became irrelevant, quickly, when our O couldn't do ****.

It's not irrelevant, at least if they did something, you could say well the defense showed something at least. I never understand the, "well the offense or defense played like ****, so it's ok the other played ****** as well".

The one constant in this *** beating we've taken from this team over the years is Brady, yet we try the same defense over and over and over vs them, that's why its so maddening.

Yes, I would feel a hell of alot better, as would every single person on this board if our defense, that's supposed to be fast and better held them to 6 points, or showed something. Although, when you're players are not being put into position to succeed it's hard to get down on them.

4th and goal from the ONE YARD LINE down 20-0. Dumblin says **** it and kicks a field goal. Horrible. Pathetic. That's the epitome of a Loser coach. In contrast, here is what Pederson did yesterday:

Game: Washington at Philadelphia, Sunday.

Situation: Washington up 20-7, third quarter, 13:03 left, Eagles ball fourth-and-one at the Eagles 34-yard line.

The decision: If Eagles coach Doug Pederson goes for it and fails, he leaves Washington (and hot quarterback Case Keenum) a short field to make it a three-score game. If he punts, he could leave Washington 80 yards from a touchdown, but short-circuiting this possession would leave him with one less chance to score in what could end up being a shootout.

The thought process: In training camp, Pederson told me he coached too conservatively last year, unlike his bold 2017 season that ended in the Eagles’ first Super Bowl victory. “I want to coach aggressive,” Pederson told me on my camp visit. “That’s what I gotta get back to. Last year was not my mentality. I’ve learned from that.” And on Sunday, Pederson said post-game he thought it was “a no-brainer. It was just inside a yard [to go]. I knew I was gonna go for it. We had success on the QB sneaks early in the game. I was coming right back to it.”

The analytics: Eric Eager of PFF reports: “There have been fewer than 130 plays when a team went for it on fourth down before the fourth quarter and inside of their own 35 since 2006. The play carried significant weight for the Eagles, roughly a 33 percent proposition to win the game at the time. Punting in that situation would have made the Eagles probability of winning the game the same, while converting the first down would increase their win probability to 40 percent. Converting on all run plays for a team with the strengths of the Eagles against a team with the strength of Washington is roughly a 73-percent proposition, and given the historical rates of quarterback sneaks, likely higher in this instance. Thus, going for it did have some risk, but the benefits outweighed the cost.”

The result: Carson Wentz converted the first down on a two-yard QB sneak. Eight plays later, the Eagles scored to make it 20-14, and on their next series, they scored another touchdown to go ahead for good. No doubt Pederson will be similarly emboldened the rest of the season, the way he was in 2017.

You don't understand it because that is not what is being said.

The beatdowns from Brady and Bilichek didn't start when Tomlin took over. They were going on before that and against better and different defenses.

Heck, *'s score high against other teams too, and they are playing different defenses, right?

All around sucking last night. First time i have turned off a game in years. That Kam Kelly **** up and the ineptitude of the offense is what made me do it, though.

Everyone knows how to beat Brady = pressure pressure pressure up the middle
What does Mikey and hill billy do? rush two up the middle and send in our run around DE's from the corners!! Great coaching
Watt thinks if he goes 10 yards behind Brady, he'll get to him...glad to see our defensive coaches are on top of things

Mikey says they weren't ready for prime time?? He should be fired immediately after that comment! He's the HC, that's your job, you've had months to prepare! My god
I was trying to think when he stated this before...oh yeah, last year on his way to a no play-off year
Plus Ben saying "I need to play better" broken record

The teams that beat them apply pressure up front, it's always been like that, we didn't even try to do anything like that. 2 DLINEMEN is not going to pressure Brady in his face.

Better get this fixed real fast. Seahawks will be a difficult game and could very well lose it. Then to the west coast for one of those games we’re suppose to win but find ways to lose.
Tomlin better spend all day and night in the lab.

Agree
a 27-21 loss shows the team ready and competitive
Last night was a poorly coached team, ready to lose, Tomlin team we've seen year in year out
Especially on PRIME TIME and with UNDER.500 TEAMS!

Fire Tomlin

In all honesty I wasn’t expecting a win in Foxboro. I like this better than, say, a 27 - 21 loss. Why? You can’t sugarcoat what happened last night.

If you lose 27-21 then you've done some things right and don't have to re-invent the entire team. Now after getting blown out and doing absolutely nothing right you have to right the entire ship in a week. Now they have to work on everything instead of focusing on a few issues. And they have to wonder if their players are even good enough to be on an NFL field. You don't have all those issues with a 6 point loss.

I am literally still chuckling.

I have NEVER seen the Steelers get their ***** handed to them like that.

Here's a question, when is 33-3 NOT that close?

Lots of firsts with Tomless at the controls and they ain’t all good ones.
Rooney made a crucial mistake extending this fraud rather than making him prove it this season.

That FG was a total embarrassment to the team and it’s fans but that ignorant, arrogant ****** couldn’t care less. He’s a fraud. Defensive guru my ***. He has yet to develop one defensive back in 13 years and that was suppose to be his forte.

We are home for the opener against Seahawks. The following week we are off to San Fran and I don’t like that game. We always **** it up when we go to the West Coast. Or should I say our illustrious coach does. Remember last year in Oak Land! Tomless has Ben on the sideline in the second half for Josh Dobbs when Ben could have been in there.

All you need to hear is Tomlin speech we were not ready for prime time. What he hell as he thought about since the schedule came out, he is a big time loser in NE and he come up with that answer. He is an embarrassment to this team when he makes these type of typical statements from him

His schedule must have gotten lost in the mail this summer, therefore he didn't know who the Week 1 opponent was.

How the **** are we still using 2 DLINEMEN against NE?????? NE goes 7 DBs and still puts 3 big bodies up front and Hightower so they don't get man handled.
This is most frustrating part of ******* Tomlin, he sticks with this **** assed scheme, then at halftime says it's not the scheme, WTF???

This should be a media question for Tomlin.

Nope, not one ******* media person asks this, or even talk about it on their talk shows. They just ***** that Cam and Tuitt and Watt played poorly, well Watt was doubled, and Cam and Tuitt were going against 3 guys the entire night.
Kind of like everyone bitching that Brady played so great, while Ben didn't. Brady had guys running wide open all over the field, while our guys were wearing Patriot DB's as blankets. A coach is allowed to put our players in a better position to succeed, you know kind of like the Patriots did.
