As a fan, this season stings the worst

Very true. Back in the day I think an overpowering defense and running game trumped a franchise QB. (Marino, Foutz, etc) Not anymore

The 1994 loss was not a shock. SD played in a much better division, had a tougher schedule, had a top 5 offense, a top 10 defense while playing a tougher schedule than we did. We had the 16th ranked offense and a top 5 defense. Yeah they had Stan Humphries, well we had ******* Neil. We finished 1 game ahead of them, we played in a division where the Oilers and Bengals combined for 4 or 5 wins that season.

Sir, though you make a good argument with those facts, and stats, you are the first person in 23 years I've heard say that, so by that fact, I still think it ranks 1.

I can honestly say that this one didn't sting that bad because I honestly was not surprised we lost. I was not excited leading up to the game because it was again against a team that we should have wiped the floor with and we all know how this team performs against sub-par opponents and teams that we should beat. I actually bet my wife $20 that we would find a way to lose that game, on the plus side, I did get a nice bottle of Napa Valley Cab. Sauv. for the $20.

Agreed. Under the current leadership, I have become accustomed to seeing the team underachieve.

A couple days later and I am still numb from that game. I keep thinking to myself, how in the hell does a team with that much damn talent not have at least 1 or 2 Lombardi's the last 5 years. I mean seriously, on paper there is no team and I mean no team that can match the Steelers in player personnel on both sides of the ball. We have a top 5 quarterback, a top 2 running back, the absolute best wide receiver group, a top 5 offensive line, two phenomenal d-lineman, a talented veteran corner in Haden, two up and coming young defenders in Watt and Burns, and to cap it all off a top 5 placekicker in Boswell. There is absolutely no excuse for this **** year after year. So frustrating.

No defense.

This year we started with this amazing offense not doing its job. Not a dig, but they did not live up. The def was the surprise and kept us in. Then as the year went the offense caught up and the def went to “what we thought they were” but we one on the leg of Boz. How many games, how many BP games did we endure? Seems to me too many. I truely think as I reflect both sides of the ball couldn’t put a complete game together during the same week.

I truely think if we had a half better run defense, we win more game and more comfortable. Our front blows. And with B.B. and the Onbeing handcuff by Haley they couldn’t put up 40 plus a week to overcome...too many FG

Nope... this one didn't even hurt... this team has been on the verge of imploding all season... a ton of last second wins didn't hide the problems for me... this offense was dramatically underperforming and the D had issues prior to shazier going down

Uh, unless you’re the Steelers. Hell, throw in the best back and receiver in the league. It doesn’t mean ****.

Yeah.

This loss doesn't sting at all.

There's been some highs and lows all season.

The lows tend to get exploited in the playoffs.

2004 hurt. 15-1 magical season.
**** those cheating ********

2001. Didn't Hines get screwed on an amazing sideline catch that game?
Porter drops a pick 6. I think we could've beat the Rams too.

2011. The team struggled as the season progressed.
I remember Ben's ankle not fully functionable.
Being a super bowl contender the previous season, I had hopes. Especially against Tebow.

2003. Yeah **** Nedney. Oscar Award winning flopper.

Don't remember 94 too well. I remember my parents having a party for 95 super bowl game.
Still a blur to really remember.

Steelers were way better than the Chargers in 94. Neil just couldn't get it done. Kicked their *** and lost the game.

97 AFCC vs Denver at home was a ***** too. Kordell sucked, threw 3 picks. Romanowski pointing at his head, laughing at Kordell for being stupid. That was a great team, with no QB. Bettis in his prime. Yancey's best year. Joel Steed was a beast. Carnell Lake was All Pro. Kirkland. Lloyd. Chad Brown. Earl Holmes. Gildon. (compare those to our linebackers today, LOL!)

Meh. This one was only moderately disappointing to me. I had a bad feeling going into the game, or maybe I’ve just learned not to get my hopes up.

As soon as the media started talking about how terrible Bortles was, I knew we were in trouble. I told my brother, a Jags fan that Good Blake would show up for sure.

I wasn’t convinced by our wins all season. Apologists kept arguing that it doesn’t matter how much you win by, as long as you win. I disagree. There is a winning mentality, and we always seem to be satisfied with doing just enough.

Even the NEGame was a bit of a fluke. We actually have up the game winning TD, then got lucky with JuJu’s 60+ yard catch and run. There’s no way that was supposed to happen. We talk about the Riveron fiasco, but no one talks about how we got there.

For me, this one is comparable to the Denver loss in 2013. It’s no where near like San Diego in 95.

Out one round earlier than last year with a healthier and arguably better team.

Failing to beat San Diego in the AFCC back in 90s stung the most for me. As much trouble as we had containing the Browns Offense (for Christ sake) a couple weeks ago, I was expecting a let down.

Me too. I lived in Cleveland at the time and was at the game. That was a looooooooong drive back and a looooooooooong week at work.

Everyone talking about the Tebow game. That Steelers team was going nowhere in my opinion. That loss didn't sting that bad, at least to me

I don't know about the sting of that game but it was by FAR the most embarrassing loss of my lifetime as a fan, that's for sure. We let a guy who had no business being in professional football in the first place, punk us on national television. He couldn't do jack **** against horrible defenses that season. And then that happens. It would have been about the same if we had lost to Johnny Manziel in the playoffs.

True, but that 94 team was going to beat San Fran, no way Neil was going to keep up with Young and that offense.

BAS, you're right, the younger you are the more the loss hurts. The 1994 loss was a gut shot to me, but man any time you lose with a franchise QB, those losses hurt because you know you have a legit shot.

And that window is closing....

And that window is closing....

Perhaps, but nobody gave Bortles, Keenum and Foles a window back in September and at least one of them will be in the Super Bowl.

I'm not sure about the other QBs because I have not watched many other games this year but our defense broke out Bortle's window and then blasted the rest of the side of the house wide open for him. :)

Bortles....Sounds like a friggin name for a wine cooler..

Last week's game makes me madder by the day... Need to find a keg to throw across the yard. :)

And that window is closing....

Well if you think about it, only the Patriots can claim they've had overwhelming success while their 'window was open'.

The window closed on Peyton Manning, and if it weren't for getting a second chance on a new team with a stifling defense one season, his SB record would have been 1-1 in the lwoB repuS with the Colts.

Drew Brees -- his window is closing quicker than Ben's and he's basically 1 and done.

Green Bay has a similar situation to Pittsburgh. Aaron Rodgers is only 2 years behind Ben, so it's not like he has a lot of opportunities left either.

It sucks, but the reality is that Belichick and Brady have dominated this era of the NFL - it's unfortunate that Ben's years at QB coincided with theirs.
