Steelers Chairman Art Rooney II spoke with a select group of media members this afternoon. He covered many topics, but the most news worthy came about his franchise QB. Ben Roethlisberger made headlines after the 2016 season about his desire to possibly retire from the game. ultimately he returned and led the Steelers to 13-3 […]

But why is that ok?? You know what nevermind..
I don't know, maybe it isn't, maybe he wanted a switch after last season and no one would listen.
Hell maybe it has nothing to do with that, they obviously didn't consult him when getting rid of Arians.

I'd rather the franchise QB have alot if the say in what plays we run and don't run, wouldn't you?

I will say this going to be very interesting to see who gets credit and discredited when **** dont go right on the offensive side of the ball now. Very interesting.

If they are going to sign Bell long term, my guess is they may extend Ben first to try to free up some cap space. Otherwise, we are still a worse team next year on D without Shazier and whoever are the cap casualties (Mitchell is at the top of that list).

So now Ben not only wants to play but play beyond his contract..gotta love him

Looks like Ben will be around for quite a while, he may never want to leave with Haley gone.

I don't see anyway we can possibly franchise him again. We need to get a guy or two on the D side of the ball

Meh...I stated that he would do this early in the year and everyone laughed at me. I always thought it was crazy that he would walk away when we have this much talent on offense.

I would move on from Bell this year. Target a FA RB and draft a guy. I love what Bell brings to the table but at what price. Hell...Tomorrow I might be back on the sign Bell wagon.

Agreed. I said that in another post. Franchising Bell this year is the worst case scenario for improving our D. We will sign ZERO starting free agents and have to rely on the draft to fill Shaziers spot and Mitchells spot, at a minimum.

Is it?

There is ways to free up money. You have Sutton who can battle Burns for playing time. You bring in a ILBer and draft a S high. None of these things are undoable resigning bell.

I want the Raiders' draft picks. They're dumb enough to overpay for star power, moving to LV. I believe they will make a move.

We're talking franchising Bell, that's a 14.6 million cap hit next season. I know there's always ways to create space, but we are almost 4 million over the cap right now not counting Bell

I'm for anybody who will give us the two first round picks. Anyone with 1.15 or better? How far down would one be willing to go???? I'd really have to study the draft to make that determination but 15 would be pretty safe to move him.

I was looking over some things. I think I guesstimated with some cuts, restructures, salary cap increase, and extensions I think I guesstimated about 40/50 mil.

It can be done. And if anyone can do it Colbert can.

They are right now. You really think they are going to get rid of Burns for Sutton? He is playing on his rookie contract and is still easily the 2nd best DB on the team. And, as of right now, they have to do a ton of maneuvering to even franchise (worst case scenario) Bell. From what others posted on here, they are over the cap without even signing him. So, Mitchell goes to free up some money and then they still have a ton to do. Then, after they figure out Bell, they would have to do even more maneuvering to even sign one mid-tier free agent around $5 million per year. If Ben and Bell stay, as I said earlier, they would almost have to extend Ben now to free up money to keep Bell and maybe get a free agent or two. Otherwise, we have to rely on the draft and everyone on here is still bitching about all of our draft picks other than Watt over the past two years.

I used Burns as a competition depth reference, didn't mean they would get rid of him. His tackeling needs to improve though. Restructure Ben, Tuitt,Heyward,AB, lot of options. Cut Mitchell and Wilcox. Again I think they will get a contract done, but they can tag him and survive the off-season. And still bring in a FS and a ILBer.
