On Friday, Bob Labriola of Steelers.com reported that Steelers President Art Rooney II announced that the team will no longer wear their alternate jerseys following Sunday's game against the Jets. The team brought back the 1930s throwbacks in 2012.
“This will be the last time we wear them,” Rooney said. “Next year, we will not have a throwback jersey to wear. We are evaluating what we will do in the future. We have some ideas and plans, but we’re really not ready to reveal those yet in terms of what the next throwback will look like."

While he knows that they were somewhat controversial, Rooney said that the bumblebee jerseys were an overall success.
"This throwback has been a success from a lot of different standpoints. Even though some people didn’t like it, the majority of our fans did like it and a lot of them bought the jersey. It’s been a fun uniform to have.”
If the bumblebees were a success, then why is the team discontinuing them? Per Labriola, NFL teams must wear new throwbacks for five seasons once they commit to a new alternate jersey. This is the fifth and final season that the Steelers have to wear the bumblebee jerseys, and it appears that Rooney and the team wants to explore other options for the team's next alternate jersey.
Pittsburgh is currently 3-2 in the bumblebee jerseys heading into Sunday's game against the Jets, as the Steelers' bumblebee era gets ready for its final act.
