Are we there yet?

It just sucks is has come at a time with Ben out, we needed this D the last couple years.

I honestly feel like we have a better chance of scoring when the defense is on the field this year most of the time.

This feels like 93... well tge run game notsomuch... but otherwise a upcoming defense, a passing game that was not vertical... lots of potential but not a ton of experience...

I wouldn't say I'd rather see them on the field, but I'm finally excited to see them on the field!

agreed. This is the best they have been in a decade. feels good

Shades of NOD, lol

The defense is only better at getting TOs or just being given TOs. The rest of their stats are worse than last year or about the same.

I'll take the turnovers over allowing less passing or running yards.

This defense also gave up 3 TDs to Brian Hoyer.... they have a ways to go still. Offense is a joke until fichtner starts forcing Rudolph to become a real QB...

They're finally being coached to try to get turnovers. Alualu, Hilton, Watt etc. are punching at players with the ball (while they're already wrapped up), and it's paying off for them. The INTs are great but maybe 1 or 3 are because of actual good coverage. The others are all tipped passes.

In any case, they're disruptive and getting a **** ton of turnovers right now. Porter as OLB coach is absolutely addition by subtraction.

It's been fun to watch.

Here is the thing. I think the components are there to have a great defense. Probably the best cover guys for a LONG time. Really good edge rusher in Watt and even Dupree is playing really well. Bush has been going through some rookie maturation but has flashed plenty. But the thing is their basic philosophy won't allow them to be a great defense. Not in the vein of those championship defenses under Lebeau. Because their philosophy isn't to attack and dictate what happens with the defense. It is to limit the big play and wait for an opportunity and then pounce on it. To me great defenses shrink the field and choke off what the offense wants to do. Much like the Ravens last night. They took Brady's main **** away and forced him out of what he wanted to do and shrunk the field. They dared him to take shots knowing they would be smashing him before or shortly after he threw. I agree if you paired this defense with last years offense, you really have something. But a great defense? I don't think so. And to anyone ******** on the offense, you have a near decade of ignoring the offense in the first round. You got a young QB trying to win games. WTF do you expect?

I agree with most of what you said except for Bush flashing. Bush has been great at getting loose or tipped balls, but his tackling and coverage have been pretty bad. Im not saying he is a bum or wont be good, but at this point he is being over-hyped. The D certainly has been more opportunistic, but sooner or later trying to rely on a turnover is going to bite them in the ***. The online has not been playing too great next week will be a test with aaron donald and company. Rudolph needs to give the WRs a chance and I am not sure what happened between preseason and now especially with washington. Not sure if it is him or just not getting enough chances.....
