Anybody Boycotting the San Fran Game Tonight?

I dislike Thursday night football and only watch if the Steelers are playing .. . They were talking about the numbers being down the other day on sports radio -- They also speculated that the Fantasy Football was the cause -- and the fact that you could get scores real time online

It's NOT even close as to what football and five years ago meant. I watched everything every game and exspecialy the STEELERS. Now I watch ALL STEELERS stuff and about 1% football other. The ratings don't mean **** to me. Tire4d of all the political ineptitude of this nation and that includes kapernick. Not arguing his reasons, but do question his Islamic girlfriend. He started his protest journey shortly after he turned to Islam as his religion. Shape it how ever he wants but I still question his protest.

I don't see as much turmoil in baseball as I do football.

Salute the nation

Two 1-3 teams. Just tuned in for a few min during wnd qtr. Looks like a suck fest.

Well. I guess the big question would be,what if it was San Fran against the black&gold.
Would you boycott?

I hate fantasy football and I'd rather watch to 0-4 teams than ******* boring *** baseball

Terrible game. Both qbs make landry look good. Couple that with wrs who can't catch and you get 12 punts before the half

I normally wouldn't have tuned in, but I'm planning on watching the game because of Kaepernick. More than the game itself, I'm mostly interested in the pre-kickoff activities, including the national anthem. Kudos to him in keeping the conversation going.

But if people are turning out due to that, and that is a big if, how is that keeping the conversation going? You can't keep a conversation going of people are ignoring you.

I watch, at least for a while. Kaepernick can do whatever he wants, I lose no sleep over it. You have a right in this country to be stupid.

I think there is just an over saturation of the race aspect of sport anymore, which may lead people to say, "Enough already." Everything damn E60 or 30 for 30 on ESPN has to have a race element. I have been told while watching these shows that white America could not handle the Miami football program, the early 80s Raiders, the Fab 5 and the Colorado football program under Bill McCartney to name a few. Huh? I am white America and I had no problem with any of it. I rooted for Miami against Notre Dame in those days for example. I am a PSU guy, so I was obviously rooting for PSU in the Orange Bowl. But I just remember laughing at the fatigue stuff. I hated the Raiders from the 70s, it had nothing to do with hip-hop. Kind of rooted for the Fab 5, too, until they played NC, who I have always had an affinity for. And who really gave Colorado much thought at all? So you hear all this ****, remember back and realize that it wasn't as damn complex as they make it out to be. You just start to tune out.

I missed the Anthem. what happened?
Nothing. They showed a 2.5 second clip of Kaepernick and two teammates silently, respectfully kneeling during the anthem, then the game commenced.

As Cowher said pre-game, he's got no problem with it.. "we also kneel when we pray, or when a player is injured...".

I'm having my own personal protest against the NFL.

The amount of time I spend watching has decreased significantly. I basically just watch the Steeler game and that's it.

I'm fed up with the money grab. Got rid of the Ticket and quit buying NFL products. It's just not what it used to be for some reason.

I don't know how old you are, but I think with some of us it's just age or other interests of whatever. I used to love college football, but now I can't see spending a beautiful Saturday afternoon in the fall in front of the set when I can be fishing or hiking or something somewhere. It's no statement or anything, it just is what it is.

Mid 40's and agree with you 100%.

I was the same way. Now it's just the Steelers (whom I still love) but I can't justify spending all day watching this watered down product.

**** Colin Kaepernick.

I'm glad his team lost. If I owned the 49ers, he would have been cut or traded. If neither could happen, I'd ask the head coach to let him play special teams kick coverage.

I probably won't watch because the teams suck and generally the NFL product becomes harder and harder to watch every year when it's not the Steelers. But Kaepernick protesting doesn't bother me one bit. In fact, the more I see instances of police harassing and murdering people, the more I support CK. He's already said his protest has nothing to do with the military or veterans, so for people to continue to miss the point and insult him just suggests to me that those people do not want to admit or face the issues he is ACTUALLY protesting.

First off, I don't give a **** about CK (washed up / never been QB) and his protest, but in response to the bolded statement:

So why do it during the national anthem? During the singing of a song that portrays symbolism of our nation's freedom and the bloody battle that ensued to protect it. I wonder why the military / veterans see a link?

He should have picked a better platform. PERIOD!

To ME, his protest of bad cops during the national anthem is akin to someone protesting the medical industry practice of massively overpricing medications by protesting during breast cancer awareness rally. Wrong avenue / venue. Just my thoughts.

Well then maybe Kap should target his protest to a symbol of police and not of the flag which represents the whole nation. Kap is protesting YOU. Not cops.

Besides, he sounds like a retard when he speaks. He has no idea what he is protesting. I still think his initial "protest" was just him pouting on the sideline and he got caught on camera and asked about it so he made up this protest stuff. Then he had some professional protesters work with him to improve the optics a bit and gave him some talking points to recite.

I should have read a few more posts before my reply. THIS is spot on!!!

I watched the game last night with the TV muted while I read.

I could still glance up occasionally to keep pace with what was going on. Having lived in AZ for the last 30 years, if the Cardinals weren't playing, the TV would be off.

As far as all of the commentators saying they respect Kaepernick, I call bullshit! They do it to protect their jobs and not be labeled a racist.

Protesting? Nah, its two ****** teams playing each other with ****** QBs... Blaine Gabbert vs. Drew Stanton??? I like football, but damn...not that much

Political correctness has kind of ruined football.

There is SO MUCH social commentary on everything... from gun violence to BLM to concussions to painkillers to gambling/fantasy to labor law. The media has kind of picked it to death. I guarantee Pro Football Talk web hits are way down as well because they've stopped talking about the sport like a GAME and instead consistently use their platform to push liberal agenda and moral lecturing.

Goodell has been a ***** about the whole things too. He talks more about outside issues than he does about the ******* game and he's brought most of that on himself. He's pandered to every media "gotcha" moment like there's a fire to put out when he should have just said **** off.

The game has young males ages 20-30 in it.... therefore there will be stupidity and criminal elements. Don't apologize for it, just ******* accept it. Be proud your % of crime rates are drastically lower than the population at large.

The game has concussions. So what. We're trying to improve safety but the game will never be 100% safe to play for your brain. Get over it. If you don't want to play, don't play. If you don't want to watch, don't watch. Instead everything they say is half-truths and legaleze to avoid litigation.

If they just would have been out in front of these issues instead of always pandering to the media and acting whichever way the social wind blows, the game would be a LOT better off.

I think people are tired of it.

I did, and I went public on it, in hopes that Rogie Goodell saw it.

In the past 5 minutes I have received a direct email and an email notification from Twitter reminding me about the NFL game tonight. I do not follow the NHL on Twitter, nor have I ever subscribed to an email feed from them.

They are desperate for viewers! **** em.

I don't care for the NFL much outside of the Steelers, but I do enjoy the NHL still.

Even with the NHL, I rarely watch anything other than the Lightning. Since there are so many opportunities to watch them play, there really isn't much time to watch other games. Trophy wives need a lot of pleasuring.

I have friends that live in MN so I will watch a Wild game if it is on. Or a pens game.

You watch the Lightning?? Really??? I would never have guessed.

;)

I live in the Tampa area, and I watched the Lightning get worked by the Pens at Amelie twice...too soon? Just messing with ya Ark. At least your football tastes are up to par! LOL! ;)
