Antwon Blake

He (Boykin) could have started the entire month of December and the Eagles would still get a 5th.

Well now you're just ******* with me.

I can see criticizing a high draft pick if he isn't performing. Blake is a cast-off doing his best on a CB talent short team.
I think the criticism should be directed more at management for short-changing this team talent-wise at this critical
position.

The talent level wasn't ideal, but they did make an effort. Let me say first that I think they made a mistake not re-signing McCain. I thought he earned a spot in the top three with his play last year and didn't command a big pay day. But they did draft Golson and Grant and once it became clear that Golson wasn't going to play, they added Cockrell and Boykin. Again, not what you want it to be, but from this point the coaches failed to play their most talented players for most of the season.

It looks like they are slowly remedying the issue.

Boykin played 75% of the snaps yesterday. (I know! Freaky!) Cockrell played a bit less than Blake, but he did play a little over 1/3 of the defensive snaps while Blake played something like 40 to 45%. Clealry they are starting with Blake and using a pretty short hook with him.

Like I said, it's possible they're morphing their best defensive backfield into the team as the playoffs arrive. Hopefully that will yield some positivity and the the splash plays will follow, if you will.

And we just know that he is going to be out there the first defensive series Saturday night with Cockrell standing on the sideline.

If he is the starter for the next game, I wonder how many here will defend Tomlin?

Well, if the 300+ comments to that article are any indication, there are still quite a few fans supporting the decision to continue playing Blake, apparently because "coaches know best."

I hope Butler takes charge this week and starts Gay and Cockrell with Boykin playing nickel and Blake only coming in on dime packages.

I can't even blame Blake. He is going out there and doing his best every week, he just doesn't have it. But it's a bit ridiculous that the coaches watch the film and see the results (and the stats posted above) and continue to play him.

Imagine if the bungals come in game planning to exploit Blake and low and behold no Blake with Gay, Cockrell, and Boykin in the defensive back field. That would screw up their entire game plan

That is one coaching move I will never understand. If the coaches fail to see the consistent failures per se of Blake's performance then pull him out of the game. Not for a half either. Its the playoffs make the positive adjustments

The fact they've pulled him at halftime each of the last three or four games implies that they're not blind to his failures, YET they keep trotting him out there the next week.

It's perhaps the most bizarre display of personnel management I've seen from the Steelers.

this is going to sound weird, but I am fine with blake as a 4th CB. Id rather that guy be a developmental guy, but he does have enough playmaking ability to come up with a big hit or key pick in moderation... as a starter where teams gameplan for his weaknesses, its absurd though

No one minds him as a 4th CB, the problem is starting him

If you are going to sprinkle him cheat Mitchell to his side every play. or Allen whatever.

Because when he is in teams are going to target him and be successful more often than not.

I rather he is benched, but Tommy Tom is a stubborn one.
