I agree, but I saw Mitchell do nothing last season, any free agent S or CB could step in and do no worse, it would be hard to not do better.

When i look at the lists of ILB FA's, i never know whether they played the same ILB position as Shaz, the other side or MLB in the 4-3..
Is the MLB in a 4-3 analagous to what Shaz played?
No...
Timmons is a better option then Johnson and in the nickel you can move Timmons to cross blitz of the weakside on a overload. Colbert needs to hit a HR at finding a versatile LB , should target a 4-3 that can rush, cover as he need a fast hybrid who can drop into coverage and still be good vs the run to assist Vince

Mitchell will be "CUT" soon as fiscal year starts. ANY ONE can replace him as he did absolutely nothing. I see the big money will go to IMLB so our S will be low $$$ or Wilcox and a "DRAFT" player. Mitchell sealed his fate upon the locker door tunnel incident when we played the Jagoffs. Regardless of what Coach Cool Shades says, the FO and OWNERS did NOT like hearing that ****. He will be an example. A lot of names have popped up but frankly, whoever they sign, will be an UPGRADE over stinky garbage, injured garbage or not.

Hell yes. So give me some Avery Williamson then. Tough, smart & a leader -- all Farrior traits. I know I've already mentioned him, but think he deserves the consistent mentioning w/ the position they're in + the potential "Farrior type" he could be IMO.
I know there are other guys out there & the draft, but I just don't see a better option to be totally honest. If they move Sean Davis to FS (who I hear is a smart guy, despite some of his antics) and requires more football IQ, draft a young, physical specimen to man the SS position and help that run defense. Pray that Dupree figures things out and that Hargrave & Tuitt were just hampered by injury more than anything and you have a pretty damn good defense in the making IMO.
I disagree. Only because polumalu sat his first year,, or played little. He became great later, but remember he had that huge head and was labeled bustamalu. lol
There has now been talk of moving Gay and Brian Allen to safety. If either of these are the case, Davis is playing strong. Neither of the CBs can play strong and would be forced into a free safety role.
Farrior was Outside LB for the jets.. And I think they played a 4-3. Apparently according to Wikipedia, inside was his former more natural position

That is good news as I thought Davis was doing a pretty good job contrary to what some here have been saying. BUT we still need to DRAFT for that position (FS) and hopefully BPA at the time is that position. I think our big FA acquisition will be ILB and the "BIG" is determined on the money BELL eats up. TEAM FIRST.

Couple other FAs some mentioned are Zach Brown, Jon Bostic, Demario Davis & Preston Brown (though I'm not sure of his contract status). So there are some quality guys out there I'm sure they're looking at. They need a quality ILB badly and I think FA is where they get him. No way Steelers will even consider Brian Cushing IMO.

I don’t care if you bring back the ghost of lambert... in this defense it won’t matter. Watching a rerun of gb vs Pitt and the two and sometime one man defensive line formation is a horrible joke. Huntley had all day to ripe up a crappy secondary. Watching the defense linemen milling around before the snap acting like street tuffs all innocent doing nothing at all until when the cops come then running like hell is laughable. This two man line with stand up rush linebackers is something we have invested heavy in and it is an abject failure. Doesn’t matter who’s at inside backer they are going to have guards and centers out blocking the **** out of them unabated. Watt and Dupree are easily blocked by offensive tackles as they should be they are not densive ends, tuitt and iron head 2 mauled by bigger guards centers, both being double and triple teamed. The system is a horrible failure when you consider the cost in terms of talent and draft picks wasted to build it. A power running team like jackoffsonville destroyed it. Blew it off the field. made a joke of it... laughed at us! The mighty Steelers! I wanted to puke. Until we start playing western PA style football, line up and knock the **** out of the guy on the other side of the ball, this team will fail. I don’t care who’s at linebacker.
Agree but he was a generational UFA signing. Guys like Potsie aren't hitting the market every year and when they do those guys get PAID$$
he was also playing OLB for the jets not ILB
I wasn't really commenting on his position more than just saying he was a generational UFA. Guy drafted in R1.8 as a UFA who actually was not a washout or overdraft like others who have come onto the market recently.
HE wasn't used right at the Jets, would do better in Black and Gold...
and he DID. My point is , maybe they need to look outside the position of ILB, To an OLB or a Strong safety who lost a step. Colbert needs to do some work.
