By: CJ Lester SteelerNation.com We all remember back in May when CBS Sports released a Top 100 Players and their analyst Pete Prisco completely ignored the Pro Bowl play of Pittsburgh Steelers*FS, Minkah Fitzpatrick.*SteelerNation was blown away that an NFL Analyst could leave one of the top safeties in the game off of a list […]

Unless Tomlin can advaNCE deeper into the playoffs he is just another above average coach so being 7th out of 32 isn't bad. That is one way to look at it.

ANOTHER way is he has had a HOF QB his entire time coaching in the NFL. He has come up short often due to lapses in coaching. He has had arguably the MOST talented team yet accomplished the least possible. Maybe 7th is to high.

Also his win percentage is great, he has shown motivational factors and coached a decimated team to 8-8. A lot of other teams would have quit on their coaching should they have been in that predicament.

ALL of th3ese factors make it hard to rank him as the many opinions on what designates a great coach. I'm happy currently at 4-7 ranking but realize this year he has an oppurtunity to make his mark to be #2 on the list should he take it to the house. Not fall short or have a built in excuse. If BR gets injured he has no excuse this year because he has already experienced that extremity and chose the QBs he will roll with. (Just an example). All the cards are in the right order and by his chosing so it's put up or shut up time.

sounds about right. in all reality, there aren't really all that many big-time difference-makers at the coaching position in the league these days. most of them seem relatively interchangeable to me.

Tomlin and Mike McCarthy have a pretty similar career path with Tomlin at 0.642 to McCarthy 0.618. McCarthy beat Tomlin in the SB. Tomlin went to and won one more. McCarthy was fired after '18. Top ten for Tomlin is more then fair. He should be in the hotseat.

I'd move McVay below Tomlin, though I'd consider putting Carroll above him. Hard to argue against the rest heading into the 2020 season.

A few years ago posters were screaming for McCarthy. Now, not so much...

I'd take him in a heartbeat. How is he worse than cool shades and at least the message is fresh. He had trouble getting along with Rogers but what does the first round qb tell anyone about Rogers. McCarthy is at least accountable in the play calling.

He couldn't keep his job with the best QB in the league. Tomlin can still win with QBs 3 and 4. I have more faith in Tomlin.
