With Andrew having shoulder surgery, I can completely understand why they are playing it safe and making sure Luck is feeling %100 before he returns. Scott Tolzien seemed to have little to no competition against him during the preseason, which kinda tells me that the Colts were hoping he could get more comfortable with how he already performs, and that perhaps he could regain more confidence with the amount of time he got with the 1’s....
But here’s what I see, and believe me I know it’s a stretch.
Jacoby Brisset is a QB1 quarterback. If he was in the free agency market a bit earlier I truly believe he’d be the starter somewhere right now. With that being said this article kinda interests me by the look of what the Colts are thinking. Andrew could be injury prone, I get it. He could not come back the way he used to be, I get it. But what are the chances of him coming back still Andrew Luck? What happens next year if Brisset truly impresses his new team? Brisset still has 3 years on his contract.
What I’m seeing is that the colts have a predicament. We have one too. Ben will surely be leaving after this year and I only say that because I’ve never seen the Steelers try to make moves and be so quick with drops/pick-ups like they’ve been this preseason.
Brisset could possibly take over for the colts which could add a new dynamic for their team. They could look to trade Luck or simply release him. Enter luck into the mix of what we have going on here, and I wouldn’t lose as much sleep even though Ol Big Ben will be gone.
All I’m saying is that taking someone’s legitimate veteran qb that still has time left would make everyone feel better, given who the guy is and where he’s coming from.
