Hunter: “I had like five quarterbacks when I was in Tennessee.”
Hunter, of course, isn’t wrong about the number of quarterbacks he had in Nashville.
Ryan Fitzpatrick, Jake Locker, Zach Mettenberger, Charlie Whitehurst and Marcus Mariota all started for the Titans during Hunter’s time with the Titans.
But there’s no way Hunter can use that as an excuse for why he didn’t live up to expectations.
Take a look at some of the seasons that Titans wide receivers had from 2013 to 2015.
Kendall Wright — 94 receptions — 1,079 yards (2013)
Nate Washington — 58 receptions — 919 yards (2013)
Kendall Wright — 57 receptions — 715 yards (2014)
Nate Washington — 40 Receptions — 647 yards (2014)
Doral Green-Beckham — 32 Receptions — 549 yards (2015)
It’s clear that Tennessee’s quarterback situation didn’t help Hunter’s production. But it’s also clear that Hunter had opportunities to be the top wide receiver on the team and he failed to make the most of his chance. Hunter was outplayed in 2015 by 31 year old Harry Douglas. That doesn’t exactly inspire confidence that Hunter will turn the corner with Pittsburgh in 2017.
