Pound for pound might be the best coach of the last three. Constantly lost key free agents because we couldn't afford them, won divisions and playoff games with O'Donnell, Stewart, Maddox, and Tomczak. Tamed a wild, undisciplined rookie QB and won 15 games the first year, Super Bowl the next.

Most of all, he let his coordinators do their thing.

In one of his interviews he said as for the team and coaching staff he didn’t have any friends.

He said he couldn’t because he had to keep an even / open mind when it came to making team / coaching decisions.
If he would have had a friend in that capacity, it would detract from making the team first decisions.

Solid all around coach and MAN.

Best coach of his time.

I remember being at a teams building meeting in like 98 or 99. We had to go around talking about 2 people who inspired you in your life.
Everyone was picking mom dad grandpa grandma etc.
I picked my hs wrestling coach and Bill Cowher.
Bills passion in the 1st 12 years or so was amazing. It will not be matched.

Lions HC is close.

That is a very good philosophy, although not an easy philosophy to maintain in practice, given the people you spend the most time with are frequently those you work with. As an accountant I have seen too many marriages and friendships turn into bitter animosities due to business/workplace fallings out.

Yeah. Gotta keep some semblance of a human element to it.

Yes it’s a business, but there is a fine line between respect/inmates running the asylum because HC is a players coach.
