This one won't be easy. We had two great corners and quite a few good ones.

1 ) Woodson. An amazing once in a generation talent. Big, could blitz, force fumbles, cover like the wind, and create turnovers. Some seasons he gave up zero touchdowns! I just wish we re-signed him.

2 ) Blount. The most physical skilled corner of all time. The NFL changed rules because of him.

3 ) Woodruff. A very good cover corner, who also supported the run. One of the most underrated Steelers, who was in his prime in our forgotten years in the mid to late 80's. 37 total career interceptions for the Steelers

4 ) Talyor. Big and fast, Ike could cover and hit. If his hands were just average, he would have made multiple pro bowls!

5 ) Townsend. A very quick and smart player with great technique and a high football IQ. Townsend could play the slot or the outside and seldom gave up any significant plays. Hardly flagged either. 21 career interceptions for the Steelers

Honorable mention: Gay, DJ Johnson., W WIlliams

Coach, I don't know how William Gay gets on the "honorable" mention list??? We railed his *** out of town a few short years ago. Then he comes back and plays what is essentially average due to having WAY below nfl talent across the field from him. He wasn't tested hardly at all. I guess that makes him the best corner we have, currently. I realize he has been a bright spot in a ****** backfield. But to anoint him is a little gift giving as opposed the others. I'll see if I can come up with a list more deserving for "HONORABLE" mentions......

Gay had one bad season, but since he's been very solid and dependable.

He's not one of our top 5 CB's since 1970, but I have no problem listing him say 7th to 10th best as players like Scott, Hall, Figures, Williams, were not better in my opinion.

Gay's has been a solid coverage man for years. He plays withing the system and has had a knack for making interceptions and taking them to the house. Other players I mentioned were often burnt toast or flag prone.

You are right about taking them to the house. That was a great season for him. You are probably correct in saying 7-10spot. I just Remeber sweating Bullets there for awhile while he was on the field. Here is to wishing and hoping he has a GEAT year this coming season. Also to whoever is playing opposite him, to make offenses test William out more often so he can prove to guys like me that he is playing above the line deservingly so.

It is amazing that a player as seemingly as average as Townsend made the top 5 CB list of all time in Pgh. I don't know who I'd put in front of him, but it is mind blowing that a guy with such little acclaim makes the top 5 list of all-time Steelers.

Townend was "solid" but no where near a Pro Bowl level CB, as he was pretty small.

Townsend to me was better than average. We was a very reliable player at a position that magnifies mistakes.

Was he the 5th best since the AFL-NFL Merger? I think so. But bad drafting at corner has hurt us over the years.

Carnell Lake. Although he wasn't a career CB, he was pretty darn impressive while there.

Wow, those top two are easily in the top 5 of ANY team all time. Both where bonafide studs.

More like greatest of all time...I don't think people realize just how good Ike was...LeBeau put him on the opposing team's best WR...and often times he completely shut that player down.

These lists are ****...What about Alvoid Mayes and Donnell Woolford?

I would move Ike up to #3. Woodson at #2 and Blount at #1. The rest you can sort out how ever you like in any order you should chose to your liking.

Yea, J.T. should be on that list.

If you go back to the real old days, what about Bullet Bill Dudley? I thought of him because I saw something on him recently, can't remember what, Looked up his stats, and he did all kinds of things. He even had 10 interceptions one year. Brady Keys was a nice player back in the late 50s and early 60s. Saw something about him one time on a Steeler documentary or something I have somewhere on DVD.

What about Jack Butler??

I love me some Woodson but to me Blount is the best corner I have ever seen play. those 2 and then you can pick any other 3

Per Coach, these lists are Super Bowl era . . .Butler and Dudley were fine players but played before the cutoff.

From the 1st thread: "This off-season to too long, so I thought I start a top 5 thread on who the best Steelers were per position since the AFL-NFL merger. For Speical teams, the limit is top 3. The gloves will be off when we get to punters. Fans can vote. I'll put up a new position every 2-3 days"

JT had 19 career interceptions on a loaded Steelers team and only played corner on the Steelers for four years. The other years here, he was a safety. He's a solid pick for the 5 slot, I think Townsend was a little better as a cornerback.

If we are talking top 6, I might place him 6th.

Gay was vastly improved after he came back from spending a year with the Cardinals.

deshea has one more pick, in an ERA they pass twice as much in. PLEase..

AND

you don't even have JT Thomas as an honorable mention,, you have DJ Johnson for god sake.
