Alex Smith injury

It'll be interesting to see what advances in sports medicine have occurred over the past 33 years.

I didn't see it but it sounds like no.

That was ugly. Never good seeing a lower leg flopping around.

He will be comfy next to Joe in a booth somewhere with a national network

Alex Smith is a tough QB but returning from an injury like that will take 2 years. I think he will return to QB in the NFL but it won't be next year. Hate seeing that happen to any player....hope he makes a full recovery.

Interesting facts. Funny how when Theismann went down he was considered old by the standard of the day. Now we have....how many QBs over 35? Alex Smith has been a serviceable starter, but never a top tier QB. I say he's done. Though not old by today's standard, he also doesn't have the star power to make a team consider him too seriously as a starter after what is sure to be a lengthy recovery.

If anyone ever saw what UFC fighter Anderson Silva did to his leg with a tib/fib break it flopped like a wet noodle. He came back. It took over a year.

i think it depends on what other damage occurred. If it was a clean break i could see him playing again. if there was a lot of ligament / muscle damage it will be much tougher.

I had a compound fracture of my tibia/ fibula in my twenties. It was also pretty damn gruesome. It happening racing Motocross and the EMTd were holding me hold and would not let me lean forward to see it until they air casted it.

I fully recovered and not only continued to race motocross, but i played hockey for many years after.

Sometimes a break, as bad as they look can be better then a dreaded high ankle sprain.

If his tendons are not damaged or severed, he will be OK and should play again.

Silva broke Smith’s leg?! 🤪

They are working out Mark Sanchez and Jellen Clemens WTF?!!

Kapaernik would be a much better option
Guess he’s really being blacklisted

It's a complete fracture but not compound. I didn't see any bone through the skin, like Theismann had, so it's a different injury. There are no ligaments mid shin. The only damage would be if the bone pierces and tears muscle tissue/ veins. If there is no damage there, It's just a bone mending of 6-8weeks. Since it's 2 bones and weight bearing bones at that, it may take as long as 12 weeks for complete healing.

We just have to hear back if he needed an MRI or not. If not, he should be good for training camp, assuming the bone healed in the appropriate position..

We also have TB12 juice................................................................................

Salute the nation

i remember this. Sid never recovered.

I'm rooting for Colt McCoy to do well. I hope his return to Texas this Thursday is a successful one. But it appears the Redskins will now have to look to draft a QB in the first next year.

Joe says hello

33 years to the day as Joe Theismann, both on the 40 yard line, both games final scores 23-21.

Do you think the 33 year old ever plays another snap?

Smith is 34. He has a broken tibia and fibula. The Fiblia is the back bone near the calf. The Tibia the front weight bearing bone in front below the knee. Losing both on the same leg is crippling.

Surgery techniques today are much better than they were for Thiemann, however abig part of Smith’s game was running. Those days appear to be gone for him.

I think he could come back as a veteran back up, if he wants to.

Hate to see a career end this way.

Smith's cap number for 2019 is $20,400,000 However if Washington cuts him they suffer $36,000,000 in dead money and a cap hit of $16,200,000

How does an injury settlement work with the salary cap?

I watched the theisman injury happen live on tv. With L.T. waving in the trainers..
The next day I think it was David letterman had his Joe theisman pencil sharpener.
