That's such a false narrative under Cowher.
1994 game vs SD, we led by 10 at halftime, we didn't trail until half way through the 4th quarter, and Neil still threw 52 times and we weren't playing from behind. And the two TD passes by SD in the 2nd half came against aggressive defenses with no deep safeties.
1997 vs Denver, we are up 13-7, 10-3, something like that I in the second quarter, in FG range to go up two scores before the half, and we go play fake and Kordell throws into the end zone and is picked.
2001 vs NE, We were a run first team that year by far, we threw the ball around 25 times compared to 8 carries by Bettis in the first half.
Now the national title game, it was a great game, Alabama's freshman QB and RB were beast and better than the guys starting ahead of them. Alabama also lost their best Olinemen in the first half.
This game proves that something has to done with college football playoffs. Alot of people didn't think Alabama should even be in it.

Somehow I think when we die we will all find the truth of NE and Alabama. It almost seems phoney the way they win. Last night was pretty much like NE winning the SB last year. I mean its a freshman qb who basically hadn't played since HS. If you put that in a movie it would be phoney. Either God has blessed Mass. And Ala. Or they made a deal with the devil.

This is the example I use when people complain about “taking their foot off the gas”. It was only first or second down. Even if the Steelers had scored a TD there, they would have kicked-off to John Elway with a couple minutes left. Sometimes the scoreboard is your friend and the clock is your enemy and you play call accordingly.

I know what turtle ball is I've watched the games too. This is my viewpoint with no real emotional ties.They should have kept them spread out and threw the football. Those dumbass running plays had zero chance. Any blind man could see that. And yeah Cowher did play turtle ball too. Too conservative a lot of times. He's still one of my favorite coaches.
I'm not saying Georgia didn't, and I'm not saying Cowher didn't, but when it comes to playoff losses, those are the 3 bigger ones everyone talks about, and we stayed aggressive.

I don't follow bama much, but have seen there freshman qb play a few times and he always looked sharp. His stats are pretty good of you look at them. Once he gets more exp Bama will be pretty much unstoppable
I think you are speaking of the starter Hurts. My understanding is that the backup freshman hadn't played a meaningful snap in the regular or post season.

Dude comes in off the bench and lights-up a good defense... that's next-level stuff, man.
That said, Georgia can only blame themselves. They had a 20-7 lead late in the 3rd quarter, had the ball at midfield (just intercepted Bama) and had the momentum...they wet the bed.
Bama has Tua in the west
UGA has Fromm in the east.
I know there's a lot of SEC haters on this board, but these two QB's may be having a few more championship type game match ups.
Yes, Bama's QB is gonna be badass.
And agreed, the Dawgs hurt themselves in the 3rd/4th qtr.

mythical and flawed? no. they're the champions, period. don't even mention central florida, they would get curbstomped by bama and everyone with firing synapses knows it.

I think we should just rename the semi pro team from Alabama and put them in the NFL. They would have as good of a shot to win as the Brown's do. How many times do we have to see this from Saban's teams? If not for the running back they insisted on making a quarter back, they would have done it last year too. They have had the #1 recruiting class EVERY YEAR but one SINCE 2010....Hell, I could coach classes like that to wins and National Championships I bet. And I am sorry, but Nick Saban sure as hell doesn't come off as a players coach. Must be that fine Bama poon tang drawing in those recruits lol.
Pretty easy to recruit when you place all those guys in the.pros. typically not much at QB because its hard to showcase yourself handing off to one of four 230lb stud runners.

If Richt can really start keeping those South Florida kids at home, Miami might eventually give Bama a run for their money.

My argument is that the SEC has 2 or 3 of the top 10 teams in the country, without a doubt. The conference, as a whole, just isn't that great. Most conferences are the same way, excluding the PAC 12. No teams in that conference are that great.

Kinda like everyone “knew” Auburn would beat UCF, and then they didn’t. Any championship that excludes undefeated conference champions is mythical and flawed. It’s an invitational tournament.

It’s funny how people will defend and support college football’s selection committee format, but nobody argues that the NFL should adopt the same format for determining who makes the playoffs.

I agree that Alabama is flawed. Not sure about mythical.
That said, my whole problem with the process is that Alabama, and to a lesser extent the entire SEC, gets the benefit of the doubt that other teams and conferences do not get. You cannot chide one team for strength of schedule and not winning their conference championship, then put a team in that had a weak schedule and did not even play in their conference championship.
Look at Alabama's schedule.
In their conference, they played exactly two teams with winning conference records(LSU@6-2, Auburn@10-4). They lost to one of them, and that team had 2 losses(Auburn) at the time. No team from any other conference gets in with that scar. Also, of their 8 conference games, only 4 teams had winning records over all (A&M 7-6, Miss St 9-4, LSU 9-4, Auburn 10-2). They did not qualify for their conference championship. No other team from any other conference get in that way.
The topping on the whole thing? Mercer College. And aside from Fresno State, their Non-Conference opponents weren't awesome either, with those being Mercer, Colo State, Florida State. If Florida State didn't suck *** this year, the NCS would have been much better.
An even better argument could be made for Ohio State not getting in last year, but there they were. Living off past achievements and Urban Myers' status as a former SEC coach.
All teams schedule cream puffs. Some of them schedule a couple a year. You just can't have two different standards. Obviously, Alabama won the national title so they are the best team in the country. You can't really argue that. I just wonder if they really should have been there in the first place.
Personally, I think eventually they have to let a team like UCF in. I mean, they will either rise up and prove they belong or get blasted and relegated to the Target Cartwheel Card Bowl for eternity. We won't know until they let one of these "Cinderella's" in. And that won't happen until they apply the same standards to all teams and not just some teams.

I'm a UGA guy, but the SEC can be over hyped.
Partly is cause of programs who have "winning" records.
Alabama, LSU, Auburn are top programs.
UGA, S.Car, Tenn tend to be quality programs.
Every conference has them though.
Big 10, ACC, PAC 12
Etc.
But whatever. College season is highly entertaining.
Shame that teams get snubbed.

I have seen him...met the kid...well...he doesn't look like a kid. He's a grown-*** man.
He's HUGE...tall well-built and thick! Got to see him at The Opening Finals out in Oregon this year. He's an absolute freak. Justin Fields is as well. Between Alabama with Tua Tagoviola, Georgia with Jake Fromm, Clemson with Trevor Lawrence, and Florida with Emory Jones...we could see a re-emergence of offense in the region. All these young QB's are going to be very good...
I also think Justin Fields made a HUGE mistake by signing with Georgia. He's not going to see the field for at least 2 more years.
