A potential predicament?

Like AB, Bell will never get to free agency. The FO can't be that stupid. They know what they have. I'd give Ben a 3-year deal, in that time, they should be able to find his successor. With Bryant, Bell, Brown, Wheaton and Ben winding down his career, they have a good nucleus. It's a lot of other positions like the secondary that they need to address badly.

Why not wait and see what Bell has left in 2 years? If they keep his numbers as they are...he could be worn out. Tomlin says he likes to run the wheels off em, and has. What if Bell gets injured? Lots of things can happen between now and when he is due his money that will change his value to the team.

He already has a suspension coming next season and is one offense away from a larger one. No need to get jumpy now. I love the kid but he wasn't this durable last year and I cannot see him staying this healthy IF they keep pounding him. Hits add up in the NFL.

Bell reminds me a lot like Adrian Peterson. He has a lot of touches, but doesn't take many hard hits. This is really his first full year in the NFL. Next year will determine his worth and how much he will get paid. If he puts together another season like this one, then I'd be a betting man and say he is no fluke. He has carried this team this year. Right now, he looks like a thoroughbred.

Take Ben off this team and put a #15 QB which is around Drew Stanton area along with Bell and you don't win 5 games.

Bullshit ............

Bullshit ............
why do you say bullshit? We don't have a defense, our Online may be average at best.
if we had our oline from 05 and our 08 D, then we could win with an average QB.

I am not sure....He was dishing out / running over some people granted the other guys got the worst of it, but it is still hard on the body. Also he is no where near as fast as AP. The only knock I have on Bell is that he does not have break away speed. I definitely think we need to pay Bell, Brown and Ben. We can build around that.

no doubt, I didn't mean to underplay the RB position. He takes his shots, for sure. After the game, he was interviewed and was asked how he felt and said he isn't worried about all the touches. He eats right and takes care of his body. He seems to be in good shape for taking a pounding through 13 games. He doesn't have AP's speed, but his running style and body type reminds me of him.

Seriously, put an average QB on this team and the Steelers are the Minnesota Vikings battling for a top-10 draft pick every year.

I think Ben already said if it comes down to it he'll take a pay cut to stay and retire here, so if he keeps his word then we shouldn't have anything to worry about for a long time. And I agree, Troy's gone after this year. Probably Taylor too, and Worlids going to another team will save us $$ too.

its speculated that Cumulative headshots by RBs is why they all wear down right at 29/30. That its a slow process of brain damage that makes them recognize holes at a slower pace because most of them hold their 40 speed at a reasonable level well into their 30's. its not their legs, it is their reaction time that goes. For whatever reason this seems true of most backs regardless of wear and tear and its a far more steep decline than any other position... its actually quite odd if you ask me... you get exceptions, but for no rhyme or reason... even splitting carries doesn't seem to help long term, though a back with well over 350 carries in a season usually seems to have a steep decline or injuries the next year so splitting time prevents that I guess...

I think what most of you are missing is that we can easily let Ben walk, he is old.....and we already have the next great NFL legend just sitting on our bench. Landry is ready.

Top 10 in rushing's draft position coming into the week:

1st Lynch
2nd Bell, McCoy, Forte, Lacy
3rd Murray, Charles
6th Morris
7th Forsett
ufa Foster

At QB every one but Tom Brady was a first rounder, and almost every one was a top 10 pick. most were top 5... QBS are inherently worth more than RBs at every level. if it really came down to Ben or Bell next year and a viable option for Ben wasn't in place, you let Bell walk. he is great, but RBs are just not worth much at all....

I agree with you Madinsomniac, but I really do think Bell is the exception. His stats week in and week out are incredible. Without him we are in dead last in the AFC, and I doubt we could just draft someone and luck out.

honestly, I think that's what some fans want.

DeMarco Murray has a superior O line but he's going to set the market value this off season.

Im trying to point out that when he is reupped in a year or two we should pay him market value as long as its not too long term or too much is locked into a signing bonus. im fine with hime getting a chunk but it cannot be QB money and it cant make him uncuttable past 30 for a significant amount of time. Teams that pay big time money to RBs almost never win. Barry sanders may be the best RB of all time, yet he never won anything... its just easier to get similar production forom a low level back and with the NFL pass happy right now you do not want to tie up too much dead money in the run game... He may well average over 10 mil a season.. that's fine... but if he wants more than say 5 years or 20 mil per... well see ya... trade his rights and move on...
