Bell has obviously emerged as an amazing player and a potential MVP candidate, but that implies that the kid is going to get P-A-I-D soon.

What exactly will a young player like him command in a contract, and how will it potentially conflict with the Steelers ability to extend Roethlisberger?

I'm not an expert on NFL finances revolving around the cap and whatnot, but this seems like it could be a problem.

You PAY BELL, Ben can take what's left, or go somewhere else.

Bell has, what, two years left on his deal? Not worried about that at all right now.

We will have our big 3 like most great teams. Ben, AB and Bell. They will get paid and everyone else will fall into place around them.

Ben sucks. Any QB can do what he does. I say we let him walk.. and draft a QB. Think of all the savings they could use to pay Adams.

Barring a rash of injuries, Bell is the only type of RB you pay market value to keep: a durable workhorse who excels on all three downs. And with a mediocre line.

He's a legit building block. Am I the only one who gets Marshall Faulk feelings about the guy?

yes, he has 2 years, but he will be in his prime unlike a lot of RBs... kind of depends on term. Almost no RB finishes a big money deal if its pushed over 29. you have to plan that his career as a starter will be finished when he is 29, so if we are talking about an 8 year 100 million dollar deal, you may look at dealing his rights. Bell is by far the best RB we have had in a long time, but RBs are historically easy to replace and can be found anywhere in the draft. If he is looking for a 4 or 5 year 50 to 60 million dollar deal, you can make that work if he isn't having health issues. if he wants some super long term mostly guaranteed contract then maybe you move on. still a long way to go till that.. lets just enjoy him while we can

sure, hbut remember Faulk was traded and replaced too. again it all matters on what is going on in two years

Ben isn't going anywhere. He will get his extension this off-season to end his career as a Steeler. They will probably try to sign Bell next year when he still has a year left on his rookie contract. Or, they could try to sign him now with a loooooong term deal with the expectation that he will miss 3 games next season due to suspension. They may be able to use that as a little leverage.

I believe he has two years left, but teams generally like to lockup their star players the year before their contract expires. Do they negotiate with Ben differently than they otherwise would, this offseason, knowing they'll likely try to negotiate a big contract for Bell the next year?

Nah they handed Fast willie a huge contract when ben and hines were already on big ones... The secondary cost will be dramatically down after this year and we have dead money coming off the cap too... we will be OK as long as the guy doesn't demand a long term guaranteed contract outside of the RB lifespan

They can franchise him, running backs are paid nothing in todays NFL.

It's a good question. Then we'll have another predicament in a few year's about keeping the Nfl's best receiver. We're going to have to choose Ben,Bell, or Brown.

By the time Brown is up Ben will be close to done... it wont be that big a decision if we need cap room

I'd pay Bell before Ben.... Ben wouldn't be able to do half as much if Bell wasn't playing so well.

Troy retires this year is my guess. His wife apparently has been lobbying him all year to retire due to the concussions and what not. I think he hangs them up this year.

Yea, look at all the great teams with no qb and a great RB... oh wait.

hahaha, love Bell, but our oline isn't one of the best in the nfl like it was when the bus was here, without a qb that is a threat to make plays teams stack the box and Bell is reduced under 4 ypc. part of what makes bell great is his pass catching. Oh yeah I forgot, you can find QB's like Ben anywhere.

Qbs are so easy to find.

I would rather have Bell & a #15-20 QB Than a #5 QB & watch Bell play somewhere else. Bell will not command the money a top 5 QB will, and he is currently playing twice as well as our biggest payee.

Take Ben off this team and put a #15 QB which is around Drew Stanton area along with Bell and you don't win 5 games.

Bell isn't Barry Sanders, our Online isn't that good, take away the threat of a passing game and Bell is no where near this productive.
Bell and Ben make each other better, it's not like RB's are paid like QB's or even WR's
