They say it takes 3 years to grade a draft. A look back at the 2016 draft

Round one CB Burns.

Now a backup, the Steelers blew this pick. They had a chance to trade down and pick up a 3rd, and a chance to select pro bowl corner X. Howard, a player thought would be a good one. Burns loses focus, and seems lost in zone coverage. At this point its safe to say Burns was a bad first round pick.

Round 2 Saftey Davis. Davis is still our starter, but his play has been very uneven. Davis has lead the team in miss tackles in 2018 and makes few plays on the ball. Few plays on the ball with our pass rush highlights his lack of ball skills. 3rd party rating systems in terms of football magazines or online sources such as PFF do not view him favorably. He is injured to start the season. The Steelers could have taken Saftey Kevin Byard a few picks later. He's only an All Pro.

Round 3 Nose Tackle / Defensive Tackle Hargrave.

Hargave has shown his value as a pass rusher later. He's average in my book vs. the run, and plays less than 50% of the snaps these days, partially to the coaches dumfounding 2 defensive lineman format. Still, he is a good third-round pick and has a relatively low cap number. What the Steelers decide to do with him in the offseason will be interesting.

Round 4 Offensive tackle Hawkins.

A pick I didn't like, he was shaky when healthy in the pre-season and hurt too often. He's cut now. Quite a few starting offensive linemen were taken after Hawkins.

Round 6. Outside linebacker Feeney.

A speedy and undersized linebacker who never panned out.

Round 7 Wide Receiver Ayers.

Small and slow, the Steelers let him go in 2017.

Round 7 Inside linebacker Matakevich.

An overachiever who adds value to special teams and always plays hard. A solid 7th round pick.

Draft grade C- The more time that passes, the worse this draft becomes. Our best pick was likely Hargrave. The Steelers miscalculated with the early picks as history shows there was far better talent on the board. Was the 2015 draft even worse? In my opinion, yes it was by a small margin.

How bout other 2016 teams. How’s gods team draft class doing?

19 drafted players in 2016 have made one pro bowl or more. Many other drafted players who did not make the pro bowl ( Yet in a few cases odds suggest ) are good football players...far better than we drafted.

Thanks for playing along. Do you agree the C- is fair?

250 plus players (if my quick math is correct) ...19. So what percent is that, divided by 32 teams. Seems to me each and every year teams crap out and very few win

e Skinny: They took corner Artie Burns in the first round, and that clearly hasn't worked out. Second-round safety Sean Davis is a quality starter. Third-round nose tackle Javon Hargrave is the best pick from this draft. The other four picks produced nothing.
How I did: I liked Davis, but said he would be a star. He isn't that yet. I questioned the decision to draft corner Burns and not land William Jackson, who has proven to be a better player. My third-day gem was edge rusher Travis Feeney, which didn't work out.
New Grade: C-

He wasn't cut, he was traded. And Javon Hargrave is a pretty damn good 3rd round draft pick, but as Shane would say, he isn't being used properly.

253 total players were drafted making that a whopping 7%. So many teams miss more than they hit.

Damn, he has no shame. Clearly plagiarized.

This isn't the first time he has been accused of copying ****. SMH and a few think he doesn't deserve the criticism he gets.

Well he doesn't have any ideas or opinions of his own, just read what PFF or Walterfootball believes and you'll have cooch's views. Simple

Haha. Nope. I just used them to show the homers and back up what I say. Love these threads.

I only count the first to third round picks, reasoning that anyone picked in the fourth and later you aren't expecting much and if they stick it's a bonus.
By that standard it was a typical Tombert draft, although a little heavy on defense. An adequate DL, two DB's who suck, and Matekevich who's a bonus.
The standard is the standard.

of course you do. you start them. you're the AB of the board - constantly putting the camera on yourself and gazing into it like the hybrid child of a dipshit and a retard.

Not a great draft for us but to go back now and say who you would have taken after they have had years to show what they can do as a pro really mean jack ****. "Most" players are drafted on their potential and we know how that works. There are relatively few absolutes when it comes to drafting players.

Nothing wrong with going back and looking at a particular draft. We've done it many times before with many other drafts. I understand the animosity towards coach but there is nothing wrong with the thread itself IMHO.

The draft was a blah draft. Nothing great. The one good pick "Hargrave" isn't even on the field that much because of Tomlin's 2 DL look. That's a shame.

why do you all even respond to the b.s he puts up.. I laugh and click back to see the train wreck... but I always wonder ,, will anyone respond to this? And inevitably someone feeds the attention starved troll.

Christ on a Caterpillar. This ****, again.

HAD WE SWITCHED PICKS YOU DO NOT KNOW IF HOWARD WOULD HAVE STILL BEEN ON THE BOARD WHEN WE FINALLY GOT TO THAT PICK!!! PLEASE READ THAT AGAIN AND AGAIN UNTIL IT STICKS.
