If Mason puts up a good to great performance, and Ben really does come back, do we trade him, ala Peyton Manning?

Might be interesting.

I mean, it would have to be pretty damn great. Like, "Mahomes level" great

What's a great performance for Rudolph?

I had this same thought, He lights it up most of the season could we get a first in trade for him next year to replace the one we lost and be in really good shape?

A lot of wishful thinking here. Be careful what you wish for..

I wouldn't be surprised if BB has a no trade clause

I'm not really wishing for it. Can't speak for anyone else. It has happened - Manning, Montana, Favre, Flacco, just off the top of my head. It could fund a huge rebuilding effort, and it might not happen.

A lot of crowning of Rudolph already. I'm planning on competing again next season with Ben under center, this is our best chance at a SB.

Nice to see you rooting for the future QB to fail so you can hope for 1 or maybe 2 years more from Ben, then have nothing to replace him. This year has all the possible pieces to be another Favre fiasco.

All that from 2 quarters of football.

I hope Mason does great. He isn't Ben though, sorry. For some reason some want to say Ben is done because of 6 quarters of play this season when he was hurt for atleast 2 of those quarters. At the same time, say Mason is the franchise QB now after 2 QTRs and we lost the game. It's a little extreme.

No, my point is what if Rudolph plays well the rest of the season, and looks to be the future. Do you then demote him back to #2 again for a year or two? I don’t know about you, but if that were to happen to me, I would make AB look like Mother Theresa. Then you are left with nothing. Sure, in a perfect world they win the next two Super Bowls with Ben and he rides off into the sunset and the #2 takes over from there, but it never works out that way. Ben is 37 years old, this injury is giving the young guy a shot. In the real world it is now Rudolph’s team, and his job to lose. The only way Ben takes things over again is if Rudolph can’t do it. This is the same thing as when Rogers was Favre’s backup. We will just have to see how it plays out.

I NEVER said Rudolph is Ben. Ben is/was a great QB, a HOF one at that, but it is now Rudolph’s job to lose, and he has 14-17 games to stake his claim.

Ben should be our qb until he decides to retire regardless of what Mason does. Ben has proven himself since he stepped onto the field.

Big Ben should be our quarterback regardless of what Mason does. He has proven himself as a great quarterback every since he stepped onto the football field. Go Steelers!

I hope Rudolph lights it up myself...I don't think he will though.

I was calling for him to be drafted a year before he went pro but saw some games in the next year at OSU that changed my mind. He definitely locks on a receiver and goes where he is looking. He doesn't see the whole field very well BUT I think he will do better than Ben who has a penchant for trying to do too much and has favorites he tries too hard to include. He always has, and thats what makes him great too.

If Rudolph can show ENOUGH this year and suffer a few minor injuries that yields some playing time for Devlin, he might look even better...or as good.

In this case, I try to pull a "Garapollo" trade with Mason because they will come calling Plus he won't be satisfied going back to the bench. It will be a win-win situation for us.

Except, we need a HC who can do something with the pick. I think all of our problems stem from MT having too much influence on our offensive identity and our defensive identity AND play-calling.

Anyone who watched the games saw that our defensive players went to the sidelines to speak to MT and NOT their figurehead DC. He moved Lebeau out of Pittsburgh because he wanted "in" and now does the same with Fichtner and Butler. I WANT to see what either of them can do without his influence before we get rid of them. I might be in the minority but that's what I see happening.

As for Rudolph, he WILL spread the ball around to an open receiver (as a first choice) rather than force balls further down-field to players in double-coverage which will immediately help BUT he will get confused and also will get figured out and not have the talent Ben has to improvise eventually.

Hope he does well...well, enough for us to get a draft pick for him.

What's a great performance for Rudolph?
It's getting down to the wire...time is running out...the conditions are terrible...he basically has to rally the whole team to save the day... And just when you think all is lost....Santa comes to say.........."......."

We would still be on the hook for Ben signing bonus even if they did trade him, If he is healthy he will be the QB next year.

No.

If Rudolph can lead this team out darkness by winning win two playoff games AND someone offers us two 1st round picks for Ben, ( Who is going to retire in two years ) then yes, I'd do it.

The chances of both happening are very slim.

We can discuss this in earnest in, oh... 7-8 months from now.

The only thing holding back Rudolph's progression as a QB is real game experience. Having Ben in the film room and on the sidelines helping him through scenarios and mistakes is a dream come true, really. Mason has the physical and mental tools to be a damn good QB.

in terms of next year, we could very well have a scenario where the fans and media want Rudolph starting and Tomlin giving Ben the start...a QB controversy and more drama in the Steelers locker room. Yay!

I would have to say the Steelers think they are going to be quite alright at QB considering they just gave up next year’s first Minkah Fitzpatrick, so there’s that.

Sure they do, Ben is under contract two more seasons. They didn’t make this trade based on Rudolph’s two Qtrs of play lol.. I hope that’s not what you’re insinuating. They also made it cause they need a safety to replace Davis with next year.

The Steelers ability to judge talent across the board has been about equal to Ray Charles at the dart board. We are paying Dupree 9 million dollars, and had 7 first round draft picks on defense and still couldn’t produce.
