A interesting look@ possible Steeler defensive formations with different D personnel.

Good read!!!!

Some of those on paper look good, but if they are removing Watt in them, they are going backwards.

Each formation has a LBer, you can always keep Watt on the field, and should.

Soooooooo, Bud leaves the field for the nickel and runs back on for the dime so we have 2 DL and 2 LB's to rush the passer or our front rushing the passer gets even smaller than it has been. Good luck pressuring the QB and stopping the 3rd and looooooooooooooong runs. Again, I'll have to see this work before I believe it because it hasn't for 3 years now.

They didn't even mention Cam Sutton until the end of the article. I thought he was a prime candidate for the $LB spot until they drafted Edmunds and Allen. There are a **** ton of choices in the secondary this year.

Good article Slash

I guess they always dismiss him as a corner, but personally I would like to get him on the field more. In some capacity,

They've got lots of personnel on the back end and our anchors on the front end. Its what's in the middle of the field that we all wonder about.

AlleDong hopes whatever is in the middle is **** shaped.

I think I'm on the wait and see train. I haven't seen that 2DL set stop the run and not sure yet if that set ever will. New personal may change things so I'm waiting and seein. GREAT read find there slash.

Is Sutton 6' or taller and over 200 lbs? If not, he's not going to be a hybrid LB. Too small. That's why they went with Edmunds and Allen - both are over 6' and 210 lbs+

That don't leave much leeway T...corners Brian Allen and Malik Golden fall into that category. Allen fits the prototypical $LB at Allen, Brian CB 6-3 215 though.

All but 2 of the safety's meet your qualifications too.

27 Allen, Marcus S 6-2 215 .
31 Berhe, Nat S 5-11 195
42 Burnett, Morgan S 6-1 209
37 Dangerfield, Jordan S 5-11 199
21 Davis, Sean S 6-1 202
34 Edmunds, Terrell S 6-1 217
39 Golden, Malik S 6-0 205

Sometimes it's what inside the size as much as size itself. Sutton at 5-11...188 is a bit undersized......... he just might be capable of holding the spot nontheless.but history says it's not easy.

Good point though....size does matter

They are looking for some one who can play that spot and be effective against the run. Teams like to get cute and get us in nickle and dime and then run the ball.. especially after shazier was hurt..so they want guys who are big and physical enough to maintain their gaps and not be liabilities vs the pass. When teams like jacksonville go big we have Bostic for that..

Look at the size of our safeties. That coupled with their speed and willingness to take on a 230+ lb RB barreling at them is key. Davis, Burnett, Edmunds and Allen all have good size and speed. It will be interesting to see how things play out. I hope for the best.

Sutton wouldn't hold up as a $LB. Like you indicated, he's a bit small in the *** to do that.
Though adding Edmunds makes me also wonder about his role and Sutton's role. I recall seeing articles about Sutton being moved to Safety. Then we draft a LB/S hybrid in Edmunds...while also adding Burnett and Bostic. Good problem to have - lots of talent (on paper).

Just think at some moments you had Gay, Mitchell, and Golden roaming the secondary.

I think that paper talent is going to show up as far as improved speed on the field.

I think Burnett can hold SS down and be solid.

I still think FS could be the make it or break it.

If Davis struggles they might just move Burnett to FS and let the rooks fight it out for SS.

Definitely a make or break it year for him. I hope he finds his niche as that could go a long ways into a improved secondary.

None of it matters if they all keep arm tackling. You know head up,wrap up and drive with the legs. So instead of group arm tackling. Group tackling. Magic fundamental concepts here.......brought to you by Mentos The Fresh Maker...

I think that's part of the reason they went with Edmunds and Allen. Both are good tacklers.

I don't think cam Sutton has any trait that would make him work there, he's a pure corner
