For the yoots on the board, this was a pretty big deal: The Steelers went West and won, handing the Niners their only loss that season. SF finished 18-1.

The Steelers won the division, then won at Denver - I'm not making this up - but got whacked at Miami in the AFC Championship Game.

This was added to youtube only a few weeks ago:

Salute the nation

Didn't realize how fun it would be to watch a game like that, thanks Frenchy! Mark Malone, Walter Abercrombie, Weegie Thompson, oh boy! Also, funny to see how the uniforms were so saggy back then, they all looked like scarecrows with their jerseys blowing in the wind. My final observation is how quickly the ball was snapped. They lined-up, QB crouched behind the center and the ball was snapped. No barking out cadence, changing calls, etc. I bet they ran more plays back then, not letting the playclock run down like nowadays...

But there was less passing. I'm pretty sure plays have increased over time.

Mark Malone as QB. How I don't miss those days. Amazing win, especially on the West Coast.

I remember that upset as a kid.

did Mark Malone even wear shoulder pads?

Thank you for posting this. This was a big game that I never saw. Living in Ohio, the game was not broadcast here, so I listened on radio to Hillgrove and Cope and raked leaves. Glad I finally got to see this one.

That was a damn good football right there. Neat to watch something like that

i think I remember the Miami game. did we go up 14-0 like asap?
