I know there have been some Calvin Johnoson/ Larry Fitz comparisons with Claypool right now, so I wanted to break down some cold hard data.
Here is what Claypool is currently doing 4 games into his rookie season, that no other big receiver has really been asked to do. He's on all of the ST coverage teams, and he's the only WR in 22/13 sets (first number is RBs 2nd is TEs). The latter is insane. JuJu was getting some rookie snaps here, but it looks like they like Claypool's blocking and playmaking better now and he is getting more snaps than other WRs because of this. I don't remember any of the other WRs I am going to mention as being ST coverage studs, or in on 22/13 sets, because they weren't known for blocking. They are also using him as a runner more than the other WRs as he sealed the first victory of the year on an end around for a 1st down.
Claypool right now is his own receiver and the Steelers are just scratching the surface on how to utilize him. Hell he would have had 200yds and 5TDs if refs could call the game right, and he didn't hit a defenders leg on a beautiful diving catch.
Here's how he stacks up with other notable WRs rookie years:
Claypool 6'4" 238lb 4gms 1strt 13rec 261yd 4car 14yd 5TD
Megatron 6'5" 237lb 15gm 10strt 48rec 756yd 4car 52yd 5TD
R. Moss 6'4" 210llb 16gm 11strt 69rec 1313yd 1car 4yd 17TD
Fitzgerald 6'3" 218lb 16gm 16strt 58rec 780yd 8car 14yd 8TD
Burress 6'5" 232lb 12gm 9strt 22rec 273yd 0rush 0TD
M.Bryant 6'4" 210lb 10gm 3strt 26rec 549yd 3car 12yd 8TD
Claypool is projecting for 52rec 1044yd 16car 56yd 20TD
I can't see him getting 20TDs, but he can hit those receiving numbers and rushing numbers IMHO.
Claypool is the heaviest of all of the other receivers, and his blazing 4.3/40 at that weight is special. Megatron special. Claypool has better hands than Burress and Bryant, and is showing he can hang with all of these other player's stats, except for Moss. dude was a freak out of the box!
Just interesting to put into perspective, the abilities of Claypool at this point, where it looks like he's projecting to start sooner than later, but either way, he's probably going to receive a majority of WR snaps due to his skillset in lower WR packeges with 1 or 2 WR sets.
