49ers trade for Garoppolo- Brown to Seattle

49ers just released Hoyer. Pats signing Hoyer could be a possibility. He's been there before.

and you're wrong - Kirk Cousins will be Brady's replacement next year

Yeah because the patriots love to play hardball with established stars. Lmao at kirk being tommy boy's successor, yeah thatll happen bwahahhaa

What the hell has Jimmy Garoppolo ever done except back up Tom Terrific?
Brady can’t play much longer. He’s 40 years old and if Garoppolo was all that good they wouldn’t have traded him. He would have been the heir apparent.

Brady will be playing while wearing a diaper and titanium knees.

Garapopo will do nothing . Just like Bisset. He is just a guy. The Cheats bamboozled the 49ers!

Maybe maybe not. I think NE thought he had something, while not go after a first rounder folks were offering last year.

They had to see if Brady would come back, but since he plans to play well into his 40s, no reason to keep the bird that wants to soar. The Steelers have more of a gray area at the QB position than the Pats. This could be Ben's last year. We know Brady will still be playing next year.

We have our whopper trade of 2017.

The New England Patriots have traded quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to the San Francisco 49ers for a 2018 second-round pick, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per a source involved.

ESPN first reported the news.

WOW did the 49ers get a deal. I guess with the 2018 QB class being a good one, that's all New England could get.

Designer steroids go so well with his designer jeans...

So SF ***** up their shot at the #1 overal draft pick by trading for a better QB....and Jimmy G will also end up costing them more money to re-sign than drafting 1-2 overall. Bad move by a bad franchise IMO

I can see that happen with Hoyer. but maybe this is were we see Colin Kap end up. it would so be a Belichick thing to do.

We had Hoyer. Tomlin let him go. Bad move? I think so.

Not that he's a good NFL starter, but Hoyer > L. Jones.

The question is "why now?" I guess they have half a season to see what they got in Jimmy G, if he is good enough they'll re-sign him, if he sucks they will still probably have a top 3 pick in the draft.

The way Cleveland is playing, they are getting the #1 for sure anyways, at least the niners have two more home games left than them

I sort of thought Garrapolo would be worth more. There was buzz even around the draft he might fetch a 1st rounder. Belichick does love to high 2nd rounders though. The fact he re-stacks his board and watches how teams panic in round 1 is right up his allay.

Sounds like a win-win to me. Garrapolo is a pretty decent arm talent. He's developing pretty well. Game doesn't look too big for him. Looks like he's committed. To me he compares to Goff or Cousins, maybe Dalton on a good day.

I mean, let's face it, they could let Carols Hyde walk (which it looks like they will do) and draft Barkley next year in the top-3 and who knows. That offense could start to look respectable.

Now they can use their 1st and 2nd round picks to help their OL, which they needed help for. They are absolutely inept this year. They possibly could be worse than Cleveland. The 0-16 race was on. Jimmy G will give them a much better chance to win 2-3 games, possibly more. It just pushes back their draft position and to me that's not something I would have messed with.

Local radio brought up an interesting scenario. Bryant for Pryor. Apparently neither are happy with their current rolls and the talking head said it is one move that would make sense and as a Ravens talk show he would HATE it IF it happened and said he was thankful his show was not national to put thoughts in eithers head.

Pryor is getting paid $6M this year. Don't know if we have the cap space to absorb that. He is also a walk free agent and Bryant is under contract for one more year on the cheap.

Not that he's a good NFL starter, but Hoyer > L. Jones.

Get your facts straight genius....Hoyer was on the team in 2012. Jones was drafted in 2013. We picked up Gradkowski to replace Batch as the backup.

Tool.

most likely

a top 2nd rd pick for a guy they were going to lose anyway

Patriots tried to sign Jimmy Garoppolo to an extension, but it was “too difficult”

The Patriots couldn’t reach a deal with their back-up quarterback. "His contract was going to be up, and New England had made efforts to sign him, re-sign him. I think the more they talked, the more they recognized that it was going to be too difficult to re-sign him.

“And so rather than have him walk away after the season ends, they decided to make the move now, to trade him for a second-round draft pick. Had he left, they could have got a compensatory draft pick. It would have been a high pick, but that also would limit their flexibility in free agency with players they could and could not bring in.”

Breer was on explaining that Belicheck felt the situation was too complex to give Jimmy a tag next year and have him sit on the bench. Makes sense, Jimmy already has made it known he wants to be a starter now. Not 2 years from now

Goodell issued a notice to every team and ref that Brady will not be touched, under any circumstance. This allowed the *ats to trade Jimmy G. The rule will be in effect until Brady decides to retire, allowing the *ats plenty of time to groom a replacement.

Any player touching Brady will immediately be ejected, and fined heavily after.

Does this mean NE picks a QB in round one? Another QB that'll go before we pick (hopefully). Kind of sucks, was hoping to get Ben's replacement this draft.

Cheats will pick a qb in the 4th.

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan was the Falcons O.C. last year. That gives Garapolo an advantage because it means he already has Shanahan’s playbook from the Super Bowl.
