The New England Patriots have traded quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to the San Francisco 49ers for a 2018 second-round pick, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per a source involved.

Duane Brown is on the move to a team that has needed him for most of the season.

The veteran tackle has been traded to the Seattle Seahawks for cornerback Jeremy Lane, a second-round pick in 2019 and a fifth-round pick in 2018, a source informed of the deal told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.

Seattle was in dire straits at tackle after losing George Fant to a torn ACL in mid-August, and has managed to make it through (without any semblance of a rushing attack) the first half of the season before making a move. After seeing Brown on the Seahawks' own game film from Sunday's contest, Seattle saw all its brass needed to complete the deal. As evidenced by the compensation, Seattle understands its window is now and was willing to sell the assets necessary to capitalize.


Brown returned last week from a prolonged holdout. Now he'll be getting up to speed with his new team -- a rare instance in which a Monday after a loss turns into a Victory Monday.

"He's an alpha male," Seahawks general manager John Schneider told The Seattle Times. "He's a leader. He's been through a lot of NFL battles. A lot of these guys [on the Seahawks] know who he is."

Brady can’t play much longer. He’s 40 years old and if Garoppolo was all that good they wouldn’t have traded him. He would have been the heir apparent.

I'm calling big error for SF.
Scott Mitchell, Matt Flynn, Matt Cassell....... These guys who hold down the fort on a good team for a few games seem to fizzle when they have to carry a franchise.
 
That's a real head-scratcher coming from New England. I don't think they have any backup for Brady now on their roster, to include reserve and practice squad. I guess seasons over if Brady goes down anyway. Maybe the thinking is packaging their first and the 49ers second to move up in the first round next year?
 
Definitely a surprise move for New England given their quarterback situation. Then again, as long as Brady stays healthy it's not a big deal. Brown was an interesting move I suppose the Texans are happy with their tackle because that is a team that should win the division and could surprise in the playoffs with Watson under center.
 
I can see that happen with Hoyer. but maybe this is were we see Colin Kap end up. it would so be a Belichick thing to do.
 
Browns fans having another meltdown at Dawg Talkers. They have 3 second round picks next year and tons of cap space. Guess they are sticking with Kizer lol. One guy wrote..."there truly is no rock bottom for this team!"

No chance. If he doesnt stay where he is and sign a starters contract now he is going to cash in on free agency. Brady says he will play 5 more years and even if its 3 that is too long to back up. He may be the next Cassell but its still costing someone 10 million a year or more to find out.
 
My guess is the Pats arent done. They are going to use the 2 they got for Jimmy to go after TY Hilton. Bank on it.

I don't think this deal gets done unless there is a contract to. 49ers would be stupid not to. my guess it will be a 3/4 yr deal.

I doubt it. they said on NFL Live tonight the TY isn't for trade. but CB Vontae Davis could be had for the right price.

They can find another back-up anywhere, Pats aren't like the Steelers that cling to their holy back-ups that aren't worth ****

49ers just released Hoyer. Pats signing Hoyer could be a possibility. He's been there before.


and you're wrong - Kirk Cousins will be Brady's replacement next year

Garapopo will do nothing . Just like Bisset. He is just a guy. The Cheats bamboozled the 49ers!
