3 Vet kickers brought in for try-outs

I suspect they'll have to sign "someone" by today - since they'll be flying down here to JAX on Thursday...
Yup, probably have to work fast. Those guys will all tryout today, one (maybe two?) will sign tonight then they will practice tomorrow and play Friday.
Colbert was probably on the phone with agents during the game, those kickers were all aware and on a plane by Monday or this morning.

My guess, it will be Hartley. He couldn't kick well inside a dome.. now we are thinking about him kicking in arguably, the toughest place to kick in football.

We will sign one of those guys while waiting to see who gets cut. Jim Wexell had a good article on Scout.com which talked about 4 teams that have a decent competition happening at kicker (Den, Jax, Oakland & Tenn). There's a chance a good but overpaid kicker like Janikowski or Scobee could get cut.

I honestly hope we don't bank on this year's kicker out of this group. Hopefully he'll just be a placeholder, because in 3 weeks another 31 kickers will be available to pull from. We need a kicker with a strong leg for once.

Jay Feely, along with Garrett Hartley and Alex Henery, are being brought in for a workout, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Henery is the younger player with a big time leg, capable of making 57 yard field goals in college where he set NCAA records converting 89.5% of his field goals.

In the pro's he is 82.4%. Henery once made 22 field goals in a row, but missed 3 in one game and was cut.

Having a kicker who can create touchbacks>>>>>

Where the hell is Kickaliscious!!!!

We agree here Coach. I liked him coming out of Nebraska and wanted to draft him. He does have a big time leg which Sushi does not although very accurate inside of 50 yards, 59 of 64 over the last two seasons for the Steelers. Sushi just does not possess the booming leg of Henery who if he gets his head straight, can make those kicks beyond 50 and put them in the end zone on KO's.

It would be cool to get a kicker who can consistently kick the ball out of the end zone on kick-offs.

Just got the phone pop up, Hartley signed. I would bet that if someone better becomes available before Week 1 they bring in competition.

Welcome aboard!

Well.....Hartley is a dome kicker. His overall accuracy is as a pro is 81.7% on field goals. Below par today.

He's 27 out of 35 from 30-39 yards . Just 77% ) is a little weak. This is not a money kicker. As stated over half of his games were in domes. Welcome to Heinz field and the AFC North stadiums.

I would rather the Steelers cut tone of their 5th string guys and keep two kickers in camp with Alex Henery being the other. Why not let them battle it out for 2 weeks? Anyone disagree with this idea?

man... scared me. thought we signed Gareth.

At least he has a young leg - maybe he can kickoff into the EZ - that would be new

Oh ****. How many threads is Coach good for now that we didn't sign the kicker that he wanted in the draft a few years ago and still supports despite all evidence that he just plain sucks...

In his career Hartley has made 31 of his 35 attempts on grass which is 88.6% (source: some dude on Twitter that Steelers Depot re-tweeted).

So we have a 77% chance of making the extra point after a TD now.
