2026 Steelers Free Agents

Does anyone have any insight on what type of blocking scheme MM and his new coaches run? This answer will be an important one.
I believe its a mostly zone concept. There's an article on SB Nation's Blogging the Boys (Cowgirls site) titled: Dear Steelers, Mike McCarthys time w/ Cowboys proves he's not the answer... Just went up a day or two ago. It outlines some of MM's biggest flaws as seen by this cowgirl author. Could be sour grapes for an ex-coach or not?? But it does echo some sentiments I've read and heard from other Dallas media people.

QB - Aaron Rodgers, Skylar Thompson
RB - Kenny Gainwell
TE - Connor Heyward, Donald Parham
WR - Calvin Austin III, Marquez Valdez-Scantling, Scotty Miller, Adam Thielen (ret)
OL - Isaac Seumelo, Andrus Peat, Max Scharping, Jack Driscoll

S - Kyle Duggar, Julius Peppers, Chuck Clark, Miles Killebrew
CB - James Pierre, Asante Samuels Jr
LB - Cole Holcomb
DL - Isaiah Loudermilk, Dean Lowry, Daniel Ekuale

Bolded the one's I'd try to keep. Seumelo is 50/50 depending on the draft strategy. Killebrew back on ST with Ben S is a great combo.

Weirdly, nearly all these guys I want to retain could be upgraded, but to have them as depth at worst really loads the roster.

12 picks & a ton of cap space gives a lot of flexibility.

Pierre took steps forward. Heyward might benefit from new offense. Gainwell will be pricey and you got the young guy who never played. But fine. Austin should be cheap.

Here's the list of UFAs for reference. If I missed one, let me know and I'll add it. Who do you want to see retained?

QB - Aaron Rodgers, Skylar Thompson
RB - Kenny Gainwell
TE - Connor Heyward, Donald Parham
WR - Calvin Austin III, Marquez Valdez-Scantling, Scotty Miller, Adam Thielen (ret)
OL - Isaac Seumelo, Andrus Peat, Max Scharping, Jack Driscoll

S - Kyle Duggar, Julius Peppers, Chuck Clark, Miles Killebrew
CB - James Pierre, Asante Samuels Jr
LB - Cole Holcomb
DL - Isaiah Loudermilk, Dean Lowry, Daniel Ekuale

Free Agency Tampering Period - 3/9 - 3/11. Free Agency begins 3/11

both QB gone
RB yes, Gainwell try a 2-3 incentive-laced deal that gets him at about 2.2-2.7 mill base, but with incentives can be 3-4
If cam stays they make keep Conner, maybe just use him for the wildcat him and Gainwell
OL Driscoll, If there is a tier A OG replace Isaac.
WR Austin only one to try to keep
SDugger and Peppers, yes, Miles is great on K/O, but perhaps you give Casto and perhaps a rookie or Wilson as ur gunners. I think Peppers can be a good Gunner

CB Samual keep Piere Cheap deal
DL let all 3 walk

QB - Skylar Thompson over Aaron Rodgers - possible 2nd and we need to look at the future, even if the immediate future is bleak.
RB - Gainwell unless he is priced out of the market
TE - none of the above
WR - Scotty Miller may be worth another look; CA3 if the price is right
OL - I believe Peat showed some talent; Seumelo is probably worth another contract if the price is right

S - Kyle Duggar and Killebrew for his ST talent
CB - Pierre
LB - Holcomb
DL - not sure that any of them are worth another contract

Whatever Scotty miller can do let Romsn wilson get a shot.
Jeard some vets want E. Roberts back so if you are just looking for vs the run ILB Holculm can go and restructure Harrison

I think that the line without Seumelo vs the line with him was dramatically different. It was a much better run blocking group with him in there. I'd happily have him back. And preferably James Pierre depending on whether they are planning on wholesale changes to the defence or not.

He is a decent spot starter. Especially given DeShawn Elliott tendency to miss games
He seemed to drop off after good initial play. I prefer they go FS hunting and leave him at the door.

I suppose it depends what the plan is for Jalen Ramsey. I thought that the D was much better with him at FS. Unless we're trying to copy what Seattle did and stay in Nickel..? Not sure that's the answer as they have some very specific types of players on the line. Just playing a bigger nickel isn't the answer by itself.

I remind everyone that those players listed above, we no longer have any special treatment or advantage vs. any other free agent.

Those players, literally, are equivalent in all ways to every other free agent on the market come March 11th. So you might as well debate all of the potential options instead of just yes/no/preference of these individuals.

I just hope Omar knows a lil something about restructuring and getting rid of bad contracts whether its forcing players to take lesser pay or move on (i.e. PQ, JR) or spread it over more years or force a trade (TJ Watt) . That's what good teams do (see Chiefs restructuring Mahomes contract). Omar hasnt shown he has a knack for much else other then making bad trades and being relatively useless in acquiring players in season that can help this team.

because they dumped the jumbo package when they moved anderson to guard in place of Seumalo.
