Gotta get someone to groom / replace Ben. We will be picking late in the first. Anybody got a preference outta these possibilities? Lawrence will be long gone, and when has an OSU QB been worth a damn?

Call me crazy, but I think Pickett has the tools. Pretty football smart, protects the ball pretty good. He can sling it for sure ... better arm than anyone we have on the bench now. He's gutsy. Local Pitt kid.

Wait til 2022 draft.

I'd rather go after Sam Darnold. I think he has talent and has been hampered in a crappy organization. With the Jets getting TL, they should unload him at a reasonable cost. Even if he sits behind Ben for a season, he'd be ready to go.

Lets go after Trask...

Might need to trade up into mid-round but this kid has the all the ingredients to be a good one...

Very good QB class coming out...we have to get one this year.

Wait til 2022 draft.

Why?

Ben is the THIRD highest paid player in the league. Do you think he is playing as such? Would you be willing to tie up some much of your salary for this level of QB'ing?

Go get the next heir to the throne (trade up if you have to), and use the remaining $$ to keep the defense in tact.

Edit-
Damn- I just saw the dead-money on Ben's 2021 contract is +$40mm? Holy s**t that was an awful deal for us lol. We may be stuck with him- next year aint looking soo good.

not hating on Ben, but we have to start thinking about the future, Ben A.D.

I don't want to see another stretch like the 80s.

Wasn't referring to your post Steel.

And of course nobody wants the 80s. But as long as you have Ben you owe it to him to field the best team as possible. Unless there is a franchise sitting there I think you have to go Oline early and often. And fill the gaps from the free agents departing.

It depends on what they'd have to give up, but I think Darnold would definitely be worth the look.

You are very correct in filling the gaps, as there are many.

From what I read, it could be a mid or lower round pick, but with our cap, I don't know if we could afford him next year. I'm not a capologist, but his bonus was $20M and his 4 yr $30M salary is fully guaranteed.

No thank you on Darnold. Ben's numbers are really good if the WR's catch the ball, 3 of his INT's are throw it up late in the half hail mary type, another one is a deflection which just happened to Mahomes as well, those are just fluky INT's. For having a **** running game, a horrible Oline, and WR's that lead the NFL by a large margin in drops, I'd say he's playing just fine.

But you are making a circular statement. What you should be saying is that the organization should be fielding the best team possible at ALL positions, including the QB.

Also- what does the organization owe Ben? The Steelers forgave him for his prior transgressions (both times), and now he is one of the highest paid professional athletes.

I agree, he is not playing that poorly, but- c'mon.

Do you think his play merits one of the largest salaries in the league? Even if we take into account all of the drops, the stats are average at best.

You think you're going to find a rookie QB next year that is better than Ben lol... goodluck.

Ben has 29 TDs, that is 5th in the NFL. Ben will be getting another contract extension in the offseason, might as well find another team cause he isn't going anywhere for a few years.

His salary is on par with Rogers, Goff, Cousins, Wentz, Dak, Matt Ryan, Tannehill.. these are all within 5mil.

I'd rather have Winston, but I may be a minority here on that one...

What transgressions ?

Yeah hard pass on Winston. Dude is way to loose with the football. I'd be on board with Darnold though. Terrible coaching situation with little to no development on any part of the team. He would be worth a look in my opinion. Because let's face it when Ben retires its gonna be a rough road, and if Darnold works as a stop-gap pseudo-franchise QB until the next one arrives, it could help ease the pain a bit and keep us from being bottom dwellers in our division.

Darnold stinks. Pickett is a gamer but the guy has never thrown for more than 13 touchdowns in the season. I can see him being better in the pros than college, but the caveat is that he gets drafted by a team with a good QB coach or a smart OC.

Lawrence and Fields are going 1-2 at the top of the draft.

The next group will be tough to pinpoint because it'll all depend what a team wants. Trey Lance has all of the tools but you cannot ignore his issues with accuracy. Zach Wilson is the fastest riser of the bunch. Trask and Jones seem like they're late-first, early-second round guys, but I could see both shooting up draft boards. I mean the knock on Jones is his arm strength but he's completed 76.4% of his passes this year. That's mind blowing.

Hard pass..

People on here complaining about Ben throwing a couple INTs in a game... how would everyone like about 25 INTs on the year?

A hard NO on Winston. Trask is interesting, let's see if he's on the board when we pick in round one.

Actually there aren’t too many I’d rather have based solely on ability RIGHT NOW.
