2018 Free Agents - WHo do we go after?

Haden is the exception to how we do business. Haden also was a very late cut. This guy literally dropped in our lap. We were going into this season with Sensabaugh as our #2 and Sutton/Allen behind him.

DeAngelo was a solid two. They brought Mitchell in even if we don't like the results. Sure every year they aren't mass acquiring top free agents. But they do manage to sprinkle in solid ones here and there. I am asking them to do that at ILBer. And at FS if they are tired of Mitchell's act. Remember they did flirt with bringing a ILBer in last year. I think this year it will be more than just a school girl look-see.

I didn't really see how Bowman performed in Oakland, but I'd be super interested in kicking the tires on him. Hell, I was hoping that they'd take a look at him before he signed with Oakland because he was an upgrade to Vince Williams. I doubt they'll pursue this route, but I think that they should.

the situation is different now. Back then the steelers had Shazier. Williams is OK as long as he has Shazier next to him. He's not good enough on his own.

Without Shazier, the steelers need an immediate starter.

True, but even without Shazier in the line-up, I thought that Bowman was worth looking at for a 1-year contract, on the cheap end, to see how he would be able to perform in this defense. By that point, we had been gashed in the running game a few times, and as long as he can maintain being healthy (a humongous IF), would have only helped us. Especially because Williams is a streaky player.

No matter the ramification we need a NEW starting FS. They can keep Mitchell as back up but both his cap hit and his almighty attitude would prevent that. We would be instantly better with him gone. I know ILB is a must but Mitchell's BS attitude persona is detriment and I'd do the firing right infront of the entire team and make full final and voiceterous as to why. EXAMPLE 101. It should have happened right in the locker room right after the Jax game infront of all the crying players. BIG impact.

Now for what we will get.

We get a ILBer in free agency to replace Spence. Then in the draft we bring competition. At FS they might draft one, but I have this gut instinct we will be stuck with motormouth Mitchell.

Interesting stat. Most of those aren't on Mitchell though. Heck, I believe the Jagoffs have at least 2 of the 50+ plays and they were runs. That's on the line and the LB's. I do think we can get more for our money but Mitchell certainly isn't our main problem on D.

This is the first year that Mitchell's contract can be cut without serious cap implications. That's why he wasn't cut before, it was worth to keep him and see if he could still be a starter, now it's clear that he can't and the cap hit wouldn't put the team in trouble

I would be good with Payne in 2 if they wanted to go ILBer in 1. Probably my preference.

They have to cut Mitchell. I don't even care about his level of play. His attitude, his fake tough guy persona, flexing after routine plays, talking **** when you've done nothing; he has to go.

Just like they smartly got rid of Mike Wallace before his attitude corrupted AB and others, they need to get rid of Mitchell. We can find a free agent Safety to blow coverages and overpursue

Just looking at the roster and going with the level of play for the value, he is the most upsidedown player we have on the roster. Plus he opens $5M for a cap strapped team. He's gone.
