2017 NFL Draft thread

Non stop high motor, and only played two years as a pass rusher

Not doubting Watt will be a very good player eventually, but how is he going to help THIS year? Harrison is still probably our best LB and signed into a fresh 2 year extention.. I would've went with someone we could've plugged to start day 1 with a first rounder. Hopefully this guy proves to be the real deal.

I'm sorry but Reuben Foster is a stud....not surprised San Francisco traded back into the 1st for him. I would have loved to see him in Black and Gold. Although Watt has pedigree and upside so I'm pleased with him as the guy!!!

they found some additional medical on that shoulder... maybe they Steelers were nervous about that.

he's not even close to hitting his ceiling and he can play right away in nickel with Shazier and Dupree given his coverage ability

Not doubting Watt will be a very good player eventually, but how is he going to help THIS year? Harrison is still probably out best LB and signed into a fresh 2 year extention.. I would've went with someone we could've plugged to start day 1 with a first rounder. Hopefully this guy proves to be the real deal.
I'd rank Shazier and Dupree ahead of Harrison, and don't forget they had Jones starting the first half last year not Harrison, so Watt maybe able to spell Harrison, and be better than Jones at it

Very True...The reason he dropped in the first place....I wanted Watt, Foster, or Peppers after watching the combine so I'm pleased with the results...A lot of interesting secondary prospects should be available tomorrow night...

Hard to say what the plan is this season. I think they can work him in with a rotation early to get him acclimated. Here is the thing about TJ, much like JJ, they love football. So does the middle brother Derek. They eat it, sleep it, dream it. I think he is the type of guy to get with Harrison too and try to stick with him, workout with him, learn from him. Dude is just so driven. He added almost 10 pounds since the end of the season. He will probably add another 5-10 pounds as he matures and he is pretty solid. He has one of the best push-pulls for a college player I have ever seen, jacks the OL up, extends his arms, then snatches himself by the OL and has done it so hard, the OL tumbles to the ground. Pretty nasty. Still learning and while people beat up guys like Brown (for streaming video) and Bell (suspensions), those guys work their tails off. Shazier too. Heyward. Tuitt. He should fall right in with those guys. I wasn't a fan of him in the first, but as an edge rusher, they were drying up pretty fast and even though Coolie likes Bowser, Watt was the best of the bunch and has the potential to be great one day.

We don't need a starter at OLB on day 1. We need someone to take some snaps and keep Harrison fresh. Still have Chickillo and Moats to help while Watt settles in.

His 40 speed is only a little above average but his quickness (which is much more important) and agility are off the charts.

Bloodline Schmoodline.....his other brother was a seventh round pick but let's ignore that and say he's JJ part two?

I just looked at his tape against OSU and LSU

Couldn't she'd blocks, got over powered, did NOT play every snap with intensity, looked lost half the time, played slow....honestly I didn't see anything redeeming about him and he will get very little playing time this year. Frankly I think he's going to be Jarvis Part Two

They should have gone defensive back BPA or taken a chance with Foster.....I hate this pick

Not only is Watt athletic but he has long arms and big hands which are also important for pass rush.

I don't see how anybody can knock this pick. Watt was probably the last OLB with a first round grade. They can now grab CB and S with the next couple picks and they still can take another OLB.

I feel like a weight is lifted. They have locked in a pass rusher and can still get more. The DBs are really deep so they should be able to get a couple guys who can contribute as rookies.

I hope they still go after Bowser in Rd. 2

That's how badly they need to improve the rush.

Chickillo, Moats, etc. are no better than mediocre, if that.

The team needs to do much better than that at OLB in order for the D to regain its nastiness.

If he is not better than Jones, God help us. The fact that Jarvis played ahead of Harrison for the first half of the season was beyond mind numbing. Having watched a lot of Wisconsin games here in the midwest, I think it is an ehhh so-so pick. He has the raw intangibles and the athletic ability, especially in some of his combine numbers, but most of his highlight reel comes against TE's or stunts which gave him an almost open run to the pocket. Many times when he had an OT square up to him he got pushed around and manhandled. He will definitely be solid in coverage, but if we cannot get consistent pressure on the QB our secondary will get exposed again and again. I think he was a reach in the first round and got a lot of credit for his bloodline. I still think Foster would have been the more impact player his rookie year, but not being privy to the medical information on his shoulder, I cannot say if that was a reason for his drop to 31. I hope Watt lights it up, but I don;t have a high expectation for this year.
