According to the over the cap website, the Steelers have

$14,619,191 in cap space. We can also save $2,625,000 if we cut L Green before June 1st.

Combined this is $17,244,191 in cap space! A lot. The most we have had in years, maybe ever.

For whatever reason Kevin Colbert was very conservative in free agency, and this time he did not have to be.

Everyone knows we need DB's, so those who care can pick the DB's signed in 2017 as free agents ( or any other position ) to give the Steelers the best chance to win before Ben retires, and the window slams shut.

We could have had either Stephen Gilmore ( Pro bowl 2016 ) or Logan Ryan. Gilmore would be a serious upgrade from Cockrell, who's better suited for zone coverage in the nickel or dime.

For those who wish, pick your veteran free agents in 2017 with the cap money. One this is for sure, we'd be a lot closer to winning a super bowl with more talent, something the Steelers failed to add 2017 despite having the means to do so in free agency

I seriously doubt we are cutting L. Green. I believe is a part of their plans for this year. If, IF he stays healthy which the football gods owe him he would be an important part of this team.

We're saving our money in case we need to lure a QB out of retirement when Ben gets hurt

you know that money can roll over to next season when we have to give new contracts to Shazier, Tuitt, Villanueva plus Bell.

PS: I think we still might see a couple of signings before the season starts, especifically at MLB and S, and there we will spend a couple of millions on each player

We're at concan, Texas going down the Frio river this weekend good times! With that said I just ordered a sandwich platter from subway. The inlaws are coming back from church with them can't wait. I got tuna, club, bmt, turkey and ham and roast beef. Help me besides the Bmt which other one would you choose? Kinda thinking tuna!

Merge it

leave it, it's a valid question though his point is not so well thought out. Overpaying a player because you have the money just makes you the eagles, jaguars, redskins, not a good team

But it would be funny though lol

Yes, I know that. Can you guarantee me Ben will be back next year? My point, now is the best time to load up.

I really can, he's not giving money back. Also he got his wishes, a receiving weapon for the slot who also is a red zone target and the RB he wanted in a Steeler uniform.

Green will be back at TE

spending big money in free agency is not a sure way to win games....plenty of examples of big name free agents cashing in and their new team doesn't come close to getting their money's worth

I will only say this.....spending big on FA's every year is not good, but when you have a big hole to fill and there is a player out there that fits your team then dipping into FA should be done. I'm not saying we should have signed a CB this off season.....but signing one over the last handful of off seasons would of most likely helped our team. And I'm not just talking about first tier FA's......but 2nd tier also. If the guys you have can not press coverage then go out and get one that can....and still draft one or two. FA doesn't have to be a bad thing.

we were cash strapped, this is literally the first season where we could have had a splash signing outside of our own (though AB's signing is worth a lot)

Maybe...maybe not. Some 2nd tier guys in the past have not cost outrageous amounts dollars. We just have never put CB as a priority. This off season dis we even bring in one CB for a look at?

Do you know what a stupid plan is... blowing money just for the sake of blowing money... if guys you dont think are going to fit the system or long term plans are all that's available or guys that are getting grossly overpaid.. well you sign no one and restructure contracts to push cap space into the future... its idiotic to throw money at people just cause you have it... overpaying for random free agents isn't a proven way to win... and you ain't getting a franchise qb in free agency....

Did someone say something about just throwing money at a random player just to spend the money?

I feel Villanueva and Tuitt get contracts done this year while Bell waits until next. I think they are too worried about injuries or suspensions with Bell to not make him "earn it". You never know that's just my take. And I feel he's asking too much for a guy who can't be counted on a full season and playoff run.
