Wonder which lower-rung Steelers FA's will participate? Overall I think it's a pretty cool idea, a chance to have a bird's eye view over all the FA's, perhaps a few that may otherwise slip through the cracks...

NFL Veteran Combine 2015 Announced: Date, Details and Reaction
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...ine-2015-announced-date-details-and-reaction?

The NFL Combine is no longer just for rookies. In an effort to bring veteran free agents together, the league will be hosting a combine for veterans in 2015.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, citing a memo sent from the NFL, the Veteran Combine will take place in Arizona on March 22: "Fascinating. The @NFL will host on March 22 in AZ the first ever NFL Veteran Combine, according to a memo sent today. It’s for veterans FAs."

There's already a website set up for veteran free agents to sign up and take part in the event. It asks for all of the typical information like name, address and if you were on an NFL roster during the 2014 playing season. There is also a $400 participation fee and all players selected to attend must pass a physical.

Darin Gantt of ProFootballTalk.com noted the added benefit that this kind of event can have for players and teams: “The event will allow veteran free agents to go through the same kinds of drills and testing draft prospects go through in Indianapolis, with representatives of all 32 clubs on hand. Veteran free agents have been allowed at regional rookie combines in recent years, but this gives teams a chance to get a like-for-like look at guys who have played in the league.”

The date for the combine is unusual because free agency is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. ET on March 10. There are obvious veteran free agents who won't need a public workout to get a new contract. Ndamukong Suh, for instance, isn't going to be on the market very long.

For the mid- and lower-tier free agents, who aren't going to have teams knocking on their door on March 10, this does give them a chance to showcase what they can do for NFL teams. It's certainly no guarantee that a player will stick. Given the choice, teams could prefer instead to go with late-round draft picks or undrafted rookie free agents to fill out their roster, hoping to catch lightning in a bottle.

And there incentive do it?

so a club can see they slowed?

I figure it'll be a bunch of practice squad type guys or younger guys coming back from an injury that want to show what they've got. I'd be surprised to see anyone over 25-26 years old, but you never know.

I would highly doubt that Keisel / Ike / Troy / James, show up on March 22.

What's the opinion of the NFLPA on this?

I think its a great idea....I could see some people using it to resurrect their career.

To me it will be interesting to see if players improve over time or decline over time as compared to their real combine scores when they were coming into the draft. I've always been curious about that exactly.

First good idea the NFL's had in years.

We should trade all our FAs.........just for the hell of it

Pump up Cortez Allen with steroids and Adderall an throw him in there too....get a 4trh rd pick for him and I would be happy

hmm...Trade all our bad players for all their good players? Brilliant!

Sure, NFL teams don't make enough mistakes with college prospects by giving combine performances priority over on-field production. They should do the same with veterans.

I suspect this is about having another thing to watch on the NFL network.

"There" incentive is to "loose" the stigma of having slowed down.

Excuse my typo's sometimes they happen. Thanks for spelling policing it really shows you are a top speller. Kudos !

Actually, the error you made was grammatical, not typographical.

You're welcome. I was just expanding on the recent lose/loose threads where many people have described distaste for simple abuse of the English language. But don't worry, we'll always be their to help you.

If I'm here on buisness and you happen to correct me, I'll thank you kindly. If I happen to be here on pleasure and you correct me, I'll let yaz know, with both barrels. Once again, I thank you for your patience.

This is a superb idea. the NFL is by far the single worse sport at talent development in north america. teams get caught up in draft position, namebrand schools, and tend to devalue guys who come from other team's draft classes or a former coach's system... there is a ton of potential high value talent in the 23-26 year old range that just gets buried by stupidity and lack of roster spots.
Lots of examples...
Guys like Harrison or McClendon, who took a while to develop and get a shot.. like Al woods, who bounced around till we developed him and now he is a starter elsewhere... or guys like Thaddeus Gibson, who bounced around and showed promise, but was never given a shot... there is this mentality that if the guy was good enough, someone would have held onto him..which is really unique to the NFL... every other sport has realized that systems arent always the right fit, that some teams cant develop talent well, and that some players just take longer to get things in place....

the NFL is too anxios to move on to the next guy. giving guys another chance to make a first impression might yeild a good influx of overlooked talent

My error was from not a lack of knowledge, but from simply not paying attention. I do not think anyone on this board needs someone policing up their grammatical errors.

Makes you come across as a top-seeded *******.

Now you can go **** yourself you condescending prick.

Did I spell everything correctly?

I think a far more effective idea would be a minor league NFL for practice squad players and others with minimal or no playing time. Like a 16 team league that plays 8 games in the spring. Each NFL team would share a team. NFL Europe done better and stateside.

I suspect this veteran combine will mostly reproduce the results from the college combine.

NFL network show is right. The idea is not bad, but it's no longer a sports driven league, IMO.

As for the teams that get caught up in schools, that is correct, too. Mean Joe would not have been drafted in today's NFL.

I navar taut dis site was abuot sum sorte of speeleng cuntest, butte Ive bean wrung befar. I due tink dat evereyone wood trie *** hurd az pussibal too korekt they're spalling, cuz it pieces me off terribly too reed da crappee langwedge. So pleez peeeple, git wit da proogrem and feecks yur shittie spelllng.

If there are not going to be drug tests for performance enhancing drugs, then I bet they would have more players attend. How many borderline guys would be "studying" with a needle for an opportunity like this... and at only $400 to attend, I'm sure they could get an agent to pony that up for them.
