Please y’all, listen to Steelhurt on this one concerning Kenny Pickett. First off I’m old and remember the days QBs Bill Nelson, Dick Shiner and the pre Chuck Noll days of QB’s we had. Although Bill Nelson when he left to go to the Browns he played well for them, and we had a couple decent seasons when Coach Buddy Parker brought in Bobby Layne. You get my drift I’m ******* old but anyways as I’ve stated before it was time to move on to Kenny since we’ve seen what we get with Mitch. He’s a known product just like Mason, you know what they being to the table. Mason had his opportunities and did little to make anyone think he’s nothing more than a backup and the same with Mitch who had four years in Chicago. They are just guys who are better suited to be backups whether they believe that in their minds, that’s who they are.
Now with Kenny you must roll with this kid who at 24 is no kid and let him take his shot. Of course he’s going to make mistakes as he learns but he will also makes impressive plays along the way but the intangible that is most important is that he will be gaining valuable experience along the way to set this football team up for next year.
Shades along with the fan base must temper their expectations about such things as playoffs, winning season and trying to protect this bs never having a losing season streak and look at the bigger picture. This team is simply not good enough to be a playoff team this year and that’s ok because now you build for the future. Lots of good pieces in place with the receivers, TE’s, RB’s, and even the OL with Daniels, Cole as improvements from last year but with premium draft picks looming in the next draft, we can add a couple quality guys to the OL.
We must all lower expectations this year and let the new QB find his way and build his rapport with these receivers and the OL. I’m expecting a 5 or 6 win season and imo if Kenny plays better as the weeks go by I’m happy with it. Guys, the Bills had growing pains with Josh Allen, the Bengals with Joe Burrow, the Chargers with Justen Hebert, hell the Steelers way back in the day with Bradshaw. Not every situation will turn out to be a magical season like rookie Ben had back in 2004. Ben stepped into a pretty damn good team back then that was predicated on a bruising running attack unlike what we have today. So my message to y’all is hang in there grasshoppers it will be ok, just give it some time and be patient with the new QB. And let me add that I hope shades doesn’t play the chicken switch and give KP a quick hook. We must let him take his lumps and learn this year. It’s a rebuilding year and that’s ok Mikey T. It’s a normal process in the NFL for ALL teams.
