Throwback Tuesday

The thing I always respected about Franco, even if he did go to Penn State, was his humility, and that he lived below his means. Just a regular guy, no Testa Rossa for Franco.
i let the Penn St stuff go after the first SB win

True true. The other thing is the way he represents the black&gold just nonstop. I mean you damn well know what team Franco played for all these years later. He really is a Steelers Icon.

Hard to believe he played in Seattle

Absolutely an ICON !!!!!

The Seahawk thing was inpursuit of a record so I hold no ill towards him what so ever.

I'm just glad he was our STEELERS Icon and forever in our hearts.

Not keeping Franco one more year and not drafting Marino, was DMR’s greatest regret during his stewardship of the Steelers according to his book. Business was then as it is now, Business.

I think had he somehow stayed in PITTSBURGH, he would have passed the cleveland RB's yardage. Franco ended with 12,120rushing yards and still pretty impresive at that.

I don't have Jim Brown's total handy but I do remember Brown saying he would come out of retirement if Franco passed his total so they must be pretty close.

I rooted for Franco to break that Milestone but it just didn't happen.

Jim Brown is NOT a Franco fan.
Brown 12,312
Harris 12,120
Brown always used the yards/carry stat as the TRUE sign of a good ruuningback and constantly throws his 5.3 up against Franco's 4.1.
In their heyday, I could see that since EVERYTHING was geared to the run.
But whatever.
Jim Brown can go beat his wife and mistress some more.

Absolutely right fedderone, Jim Brown isn't a very good person.

I couldn't stand his arrogance while on the field but after his career was over, he made a lot of wrong kind of headlines.

As he aged, he progressively became more vocal over sh_t that would make you think....... WTF what a dumbass.

Exact opposite of Franco and that's not B & G glasses either, but even if so FRANCO was a way more class act.

All of these are spot on…..

I myself think Brown was one of the best RB’s ever. Better than OJ, the era’s are what’s different. My father said (as a Steeler fan) Brown was the best ever. But he also said he did not have the heart of a champion. I personally watched Sweetness and Sanders so they are the only two I can say looked as good as Brown (who I never saw live). But again their eras were different. I also have the opinion that Brown was extremely critical of ANYONE who was lauded at the position. Whether it be ego, narcissism or just plain belittling of anyone he disagreed with. He was fearful of not being recognized as the best. He called Franco soft because he would run out of bounds, yet that increased his longevity in the league. Brown QUIT because he said he was bored, which is total BS, because his agent told him he could make ten times what he made in football on one film. So the football player saw $$$. Don’t blame him, if the opportunity was there (and it was at the time) you take it, but wasn’t because of boredom.
