I'm not convinced that what the sport needs right now is more rules, but one thing I would welcome would be an aggressive campaign of calling an Unsportsmanlike Conduct foul on any player that pleads for a penalty as the result of any play. I'm sick of seeing guys all over the league jump up after every play and pantomime throwing a flag while crying to the nearest official. I'm more sick of seeing the officials sort of begrudgingly accommodating them more often than not.

Put this up there with penalizing all the ridiculous first down celebrations and sack dances. Nothing is more retarded than being down by 20 points and celebrating a first down like you just scored the winning TD in the Super Bowl.

I wouldn't mind a 5 yd. penalty for all that crap you mentioned. Not a bad idea. However, that should be handled at the coach's level.

Wont happen....and why do you wanna take emotions away from the game ?...its a gladiator type sport and players should be allowed to express themselves...hell we fans overreact to loses, penalties etc, so why cant players react with excitement and emotion. Whats killing the game isnt the players...its these rules and penalties that pussify the game.

I'd like for coaches to be able to throw a challenge flag on penalties. Won't happen though because it would put the kibosh on the league's fixes, or at least make them more obvious to everyone.

Take the "unnecessary roughness" penalties out of the game...the only exception is helment to helmet.....players are gettin de-cleated with good solid shoulder and forearm hits and separated from the ball and penalized for it......

This right here. Can't take competitive emotion out. Or you get the NBA, where it's (I mean this 100% literally) it's illegal to clap your hands in frustration. That's a technical now IIRC.

Like I said last year give one or two more challenges nothing crazy and have every play reviewable.

So that takes bad calls from the ref and minimize the outcome................

Although have seen some bad replay calls not overturned, so that perhaps needs tweaking too.

Too many rules gives too much control to the refs over how the games are slanted one way or another. It's not even watchable. It's like a lawyer fest on the field.

If the league started fining or suspending officials for obviously bad calls, bad calls would stop...or at least it would force officials to confer and if necessary, summons feedback from the booth officials who have access to replay. The problem is the refs answer to nobody and the ONLY repercussions they suffer is they will lose in a point grade system to other officials for the right to officiate playoff/SB games in the future. Being accountable to no one allows these clowns to **** up with no blowback..........thats bullshit.

This is silly. Refereeing these games in real time is going to result in errors being made. But reviewing each penalty is going to make the games even more unwatchable than they already are but I'm sure the sponsors would love the commercial timeouts. You can never eliminate bad calls because, humans make mistakes. The only compromise is including some penalties in the review process.

I like the idea of a penalty for crying to ref or pleading for a penalty all the time, Dez Bryant running on the field pleading his case when he's not even supposed to be there, Brady mfing
the refs last year in Miami.
The main thing I'd like to see is maybe the rules more clearly stated, we get a taunting penalty for Gay celebrating a big play by Timmons, but it's ok for packer players to jump into the stands, or the entire defense running up and celebrating with Suggs after a pick? I honestly don't mind the lambeau leap, or the way Bmore celebrated after that pick, but if they considered Gay taunting, then those other acts were far worse.

Im not suggesting reviewing EVERY penalty...but there are those penalties like personal foul/unnecessary roughness penalties where they THINK the defender leads with the crown and its not even a head shot given or a launch and yet they call it...offside, illegal motion, illegal shift, intentional grounding etc...those infractions likely wont need review because they are obvious....its the others i mentioned and PIs that can be subjective.....

Therein lies the problem. That stuff (seeking the right call) takes time and the #1 complaint sports fans have against replay is the added time. Many are casual fans who want a quick, no-nonsense game and aren't concerned with accuracy.

They're often the first to ***** about blown calls.

not a bad idea there either, and the biggest issue with these calls is the refs almost always side with the offensive player and think they saw head to head contact. I think it was the first Ravens game, Troy and Mitchell were both flagged on plays that weren't penalties.

The officiating crews ARE reviewed and graded each week, and the results over the course of the season are that crews with substandard performance are not selected to work the post-season.

To me... one, that's not necessarily enough of a corrective measure for egregious failure by some of these crews, and two, it's not transparent.

And I don't care about player celebrations when they're warranted... a TD, a big sack, an interception, etc. I'm only talking about the **** like jumping and dancing around or posing because they made a first down (AB), or after EVERY tackle or defensed pass. Call me old fashioned, but I like the players that get up, jog back to the huddle and get ready for the next play.

Did you know that former pro football player Ickey Woods will celebrate anything?

Funny you mention that. I keep threatening to do that at the grocery store one of these times when I'm in the deli line, and then I forget to do it when I get there.

the bullshit hooping and hollering over a routine 1st down is a selfish move by the player, IMO.
as much as I hate it, I don't mind it. why? it shows me that the team is more about themselves than the team as a whole.

it's probably not a coincidence that we started playing better TEAM ball once we stopped doing that ****. Leave it to Cleveland to celebrate routine plays.

begging for a flag after a play should also warrant some laundry, unless there was absolutely no contact between players.

EVERYONE, listen and take note......

Lots here want rules changes, to enforce rules already in place. They want the refs held accountable or reviewed of thier calls. WHY is that? The real question is "why hasn't the NFL gone to full time refs?" Think about it. How would the "big money" be able to manipulate the games,. if they got better at officiating? Some here think the word "fix" and the word "manipulater" are two diffrerent things. Its not as both emitt altering onto the game. If the officiating was BETTER, then an alternative would be needed to alter the game. The NFL "big money" doesn't want anything better. They have installed judgement rules to assist in the "bad" call. If enough bad calls are made, then the perception of the "fix" is weakened. Oh, its just a human error, BAD call, will be the thought on most of the sheep watching the NFL. Reality is, the NFL doesn't want a better reffereeing system as that would hurt thier big money friends.
