There was an article over on DeJan's site with the following graphic showing that the Steelers could realize a $25.75M cap savings by cutting the following guys "Post June 1st".
Troy, Allen, Mitchell, Gilbert, Moore, Thomas and Da Beard. Thoughts?

I don't think they'll admit that they made mistakes with all three of Allen, Gilbert and Mitchell. I'd be surprised if more than one of them were let go. However, $25.75M could get them that FA pass rusher they so desperately need.

I'd hold on to Allen. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't cut many of these guys either - probably Moore and Thomas, that's it.

I do not think they will cut Mitchell or Gilbert...

But the rest are likely........with Allen perhaps getting another chance............. maybe.

They're not cutting Mitchell after signing him for 5 years. At least not yet.

IF Mitchell actually was hurt most of the year if like to see him healthy next year. You don't just lose your skill that fast.

Cut Thomas and Moore, the younger players have already proven they are better players. As stated above Mitchell is going into 2nd of 5 year deal. I think he gets at least one year as does Allen. Gilbert was serviceable and Kiesel would be well worth the money as depth/rotation player and motivator-especially since our practice squad was raided of our to projects. Im almost 100% sure Troy retires. Does anyone know how retirement would impact the cap different vs June 1 cut?

Don't forget Woodley's $8.5M in dead money will still be there in 2015 - but that's about all

$25.75M could get them that FA pass rusher

Don't forget you have to outbid other teams to get FA's - we're almost broke again

According to this the Steelers have 37 players accounted, with $5M left in cap

wow - Jags have over $60M to spend

They ended this season with around $3.3M left over on the cap. I thought I read somewhere that they get to push that money forward onto next years cap? Anyone else heard of or seen this mentioned?

Anybody know where tmc is posting these days?

Check your PM .. don't know how accurate the information is.

After finishing 11-5, I don't expect much to change. It's been the Steeler way. Yeah, maybe a Polamalu retirement and a few restructures by kicking the can onto the next years salary cap only to face the same problem again.

How's about a share on that info too.

I hope Troy retires its said watching him try to play right now and I do not see him getting cut...I would give Allen another shot, he at least showed something the previous year. Hopefully its all mental with him and he gets it again. I think Gilbert stays for depth. Thomas and Moore should be gone although I feel moore was underused this year. Kiesel is a tough one. He was playing well and a leader. If we wants to play I say keep him. I do not think he will hurt the team being on it. Mitchell seems like a cancer and I hope is gone. Still have to see about Harrison, Worilds, and Taylor. I think James has another year left if he chooses. Worilds has shown little. He played himself out of a nice contract i would imagine. I would sign him for depth if cheap, but I do not see the steelers paying him what he thinks he is worth. Taylor is toast I really dont want to see him other than at safety at this point. We could realistically lose over half our starting D from last year could be interesting

we need troy to retire, gilbert is staying, as is mitchell, we can cut DHB and Cam Thomas, to retain Will Allen, we need Mccain @ Blake back at cap friendly deals i.e Mccain 2 years 3 mill Blake 2 years 2.8 mill

cortez allen will be cut soon ..is due a 3 milion roster bonus in march he will never see

cortez allen will be cut soon ..is due a 3 milion roster bonus in march he will never see

you have insight that we aren't privy too?

just look at his contract and his performances

Gilbert and Mitchell were starters and never got benched that's why I don't think they get cut.

These figures are somewhat. misleading as whatever money the Steelers save by cutting these guys would be partially offset by whoever they brought in to replace them.

Elvis Dumerville and Terrell Thuggs are a standard of outside pass rushers Gilbert is overmatched even with help fromTE's. Either coach the man up if he packs the gear to compete or dump him and get another fat body that can. The Steelers have a franchise QB that we saw is a hit away from coming out of the game.

I'd bring Harrison back for one final go around if he wants to still play.Keisel same thing. They add quality depth and the veteran leadership of a champion. They can still contribute.Troy is a toss up for me.I don't think those legs have been healthy for a season and a half.Gilbert gone. I honesty think just about anyone could be replaced in the secondary, but if we don't get a nasty pass rush it won't matter.
